Hi guys!!
I haven't posted much lately (except to pick on SHEEP) because there hasn't been much of anything with country music happening in Iowa. However, last night I drove to Waterloo with my daughter to see Kenny Chesney, Phil Vassar, and Jessica Andrews in concert!! =)
I've never been to Waterloo and even with great directions I had a little trouble finding the venue. And UNLIKE most guys, I did stop for directions! (hee hee) There wasn't much around for food joints, so we went straight to the venue and got in line (most of the seats were general admission). We stood in line for about an hour in the wind (about 30MPH with gusts up to 50). At least it wasn't raining, and we did end up with pretty good seats.
Jessica went on first. What a voice that girl has!! She was wearing a pink sequined top with black pants that sparkled, high heels. She looked very nice (you guys would call it "hot)! Her performance of "Unbreakable Heart" was very nice with just the acoustic guitar and back up vocals. Her other songs really rocked, especially "Who I Am". The only thing I have to say about her portion of the show was that the sound mix wasn't very good. She blended in with the band too much. More emphasis needs to be made on her voice, show it off more.
Phil Vassar's performance was a pleasant surprise to me. I hadn't seen him before in concert and didn't know what to expect. What a cutie!! He was a bundle of energy!!! Holy cow that guy was all over the place, interacting with the audience like crazy, cracking jokes, slappin' hands with anyone who wanted to come up to the stage, talking to the folks who handed him roses, flirting with the girls. At one point there were a bunch of cute girls in front of the stage, so he just layed down on the stage in front of them and sang away!!! LMAO!! What a riot!! He started out with "Carlene" then sang "Another Day In Paradise". He did a ballad, then went into a long medley of hit songs that he had written for other artists like, JoDee Messina, Tim McGraw, & others. The medley was very impressive, and he did a great job on all the songs (even better in some cases than the artists who recorded his songs, IMO). He was very entertaining and the music was just AWESOME!! I was very impressed with his voice, his song writing ability, his piano playing, his stage presence, and did I mention he's pretty cute??? =)
Kenny Chesney's act was a lot different than the last time I'd seen him. The first concert I saw had an acoustic set in the middle (which was incredible), but this time I could tell he's moved up a notch as a headliner. New stage, more lights, great introduction (his show started with lots of light action, and Kid Rock's "Cowboy Baby" to get the crowd going, then he entered the stage and the band started playing his current single "Don't Happen Twice". His show was just awesome from beginning to end. Hit after hit after hit, crowd standing the whole time, a lot of interaction with the audience (particularly to the women when he sang "I'd love to lay you down" - LMAO) The sound mix was awesome, fabulous band (the lead guitar player even got to take center stage and sing a little). They just looked like they were having a blast. Phil Vassar even jumped up on stage during "She Thinks My Tractor's Sexy". Kenny jumped on his back and Phil hauled him up the ramp to the top of the stage! What a riot! His show was very entertaining and the music was great. I'd recommend that you go see any of these 3 artists if they come to your area. A very FUN show!! =)
See ya later!!

(who is contemplating whether to drive to Chicago for the women of country tour to see M & CDJ. Anybody else thinking about going?)
