August 27, 2000. Martina had just come down the staircase, after being raised up behind it on the elevator. Ah, memories.

Didn't she use the same set on the Geo Strait Tour that year?
Looks awfully familiar to the one I saw 6/4/00.

Cordially,
Tom

Yes, the same set was used all year. To tell you the truth, the George Strait tour was a blur to me; I don't remember much except how far away I was from the stage, how terribly high the amount was I had to pay for parking, and Kenny Chesney jumping into Tim McGraw's arms when he came on stage! I thought he (Kenny) was gay! (as Tim said years later, lol). Turns out, he was showing his appreciation for Tim's friendship during the NY 'horse' incident the previous night!! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

The only other thing I remember was that Martina gave a benefit performance for a politician's kid who was killed (?) close to Washington. And her husband was driving the bus! Also remember the huge police escort they had when leaving, to get them there safely and quickly.

Wow!
You know what this means, don't you?

We were at the same show at FedEx field!
Fortunatley, I was seated in front of the stage that day, about Row 5, but I too well remember the high price I had to pay to get there! It still smarts when I think of it. All in all a great and memorable day though.

The benefit show was at the Birchmere in Alexandria. Didn't get to go there. I think it was the night before.

Cordially,

Tom

I believe that is correct. I remember 2000 because of the amount of time I spent on Martinaville that year. I only went to two concerts in 2000, but did spend 6 days in Nashville that June at Fan Fair.

2000 was a GREAT year.
I think I went to 25 concerts that year starting with Martina/Loretta/Chely at the Opry in January and ending with Patty at the Birchmere in November. ANd that Strait Festival. Can you imagine the mayhem if you were to put together a lineup like this today?
Asleep at the Wheel
Lee Ann Womack
Mark Chesnutt
Kenny Chesney
Martina
Tim McGraw
George Strait
Yikes!

Daniel, I too was in Nashville from Sunday through Friday that year, the last that Fan Fair was held at the Fairgrounds and the TNN/CW awards were still held at the end of the Fair on Thursday night.

I still have vivid memories of Martina, and all of the artists, literally sweating it out and trying to remain upbeat and cordial at their booths in what must have been close to 100 degrees with high humidity. Wow. Remember that? Still, Martina looked pretty in her red dress. I'll see if I can't scan in a photo. I was still using film back then.

Cordially,
Tom

I saw 2 Martina concerts in 2000, but I saw others a few times, too. I also saw her at Opry during Fan Fair. I found a Walgreens near by hotel so I had 2 rolls of film developed while staying in Nashville. The other 2 I didn't get developed until back here.

I also remember 2000 because "There You Are" took over half year to reach #10 on the charts.

Yep, that was FedEx Field. Hey, I didn't see you there!! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) Small wonder, eh, with all the humanity there!? The benefit was that afternoon, actually, because I was wondering what was going on when Martina's bus left with all the police cars and motorcycles surrounding it. There was an article in the newspaper about it the next day, I believe it was. Anyway, it was strange seeing her husband at the wheel! And, btw, NOT "Asleep at the Wheel", with Ray Benson. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

to me, Martina was The STAR of the show, as far as I was concerned. I was really impressed with Mark Chesnutt also.

I also went to about 20 shows that year! And I was at Fan Fair also. I believe that was the year Martina wore the red dress with what looked like valentine hearts on it at her booth. The hearts said 'le couer' on it, which in French means 'The Heart'. I also remember when Martina had to take a break, so she sat down behind the counterand had some water. It was like she disappeared! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) People in line were asking, "Where'd Martina go?!". Poor thing, it was SO hot that day!

Unfortunately, all my pictures from that day got deleted from online. I still have them at home somewhere. That was before I had a digital camera, so they were 35mm film. I was also in Nashville the whole week. I sure miss the Fan Fair at the fairgrounds. PLUS, having the awards show the same week! That was GREAT! And what I miss most at 'fan fair' now is the Chuck Wagon Gang, who always served the free meals! I thought they were outstanding!!

Boy, it was HOT! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

Martina also wore the same outfit in December '99 in Vegas at the Hilton! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) Shows how frugal she is/was. She had said on radio that she wears her stage clothes over and over again. And she has proven it time and time again. Where can I get a lady like that? LOL
