Opening act Martina McBride proved she is one of the major talents in Nashville with her near-perfect set. She oozed passion when she covered "Somewhere Over the Rainbow," a song that she called her inspiration for pursuing a music career.

"I'm livin' proof that dreams do come true," she said.

It was one of two covers she performed. Her band slipped in Pat Benatar's "Hit Me With Your Best Shot" which allowed McBride to show her rock chops and fortitude.

Tears flowed as she sang "Concrete Angel," a tale of an abused child, while the heart-wrenching video beamed on each side of the stage.

She adopted the title of her single "This One's for the Girls" as the theme of her set, which she steered toward the female sect.

"We got any happy girls here besides me?" the pixie of a singer asked with a loud, powerful voice.

McBride came across as a humble and modest during her hour-long set. She seemed genuinely touched during "In My Daughter's Eyes" as she watched video clips of her children playing

"Those are my two little kids and my one big kid," she said referencing her husband as the song concluded.

She displayed an "aw shucks" attitude as she received a standing ovation for her song "Broken Wing."

"My goodness. Thank you very much y'all. You're spoiling me rotten and I love it. That was almost worth the (vocal) cord I almost blew on that song."

Darn! They said it again!

What was even worse, was that Martina was not mentioned named on the ticket and not featured on any poster I saw at the venue. Now THAT irritated me just a touch mad.gif

If we are talking about 2005 tours, I don't care who the heck Martina tours with - as long as Martina is the headliner.

How many records does Martina have to sell and awards to win, before her promoters finally become convinced that people will come to see her headline a major tour?

I guess this would be why John calls us the 'enlightened' ones. 'Cause we get it!

At least the Rochester, NY Country station that sponsored that tour stop kept refering to the show as "The AJ/Martina concert or is it the Martina/AJ concert?". They were really cool about giving both artists equal credit.

Just keep telling yourself that it does expose Martina to a larger audience than she would have as a single act.

12 years in the biz, 5 number 1's, countless CMA's & ACM's, and she's still considered an opening act??

Yeah, ok.......

Other than calling her an opening act, (grrr) the article was pretty nice! Martina is so funny! The whole, "It's almost worth the vocal chord I blew" comment nearly killed me! That's why we love Martina!

I go to churn the butter! (said in one of my foreign accents!) I love math! Factor this: 2x squared + x -3! Did you get (2x +3)(x -1)? I hope so! Next time, I'll let you derive something! Remember kids, don't drink and DErive! I love my daddy! Martina's new album is sounding great!

Yeah, the whole fact that she wasn't on the ticket really ticked me off. I went for Martina and didn't even bother staying for the 'main act.' Alan just bores me. Plus the crowd in my section was horrible. mad.gif

My personal favorite is how Napa Auto Parts runs these great commercials about sponsoring the Alan Jackson 2004-2005 tour, with no mention whatsoever of Martina. I understand he's a spokesperson and all but they could put her name on the very end of the commercial or something, at least.

We are lucky here, Jeff! WBEE is awesome about stuff like that.

Heidi, that is the name of the staion! (WBEE)! For the first day I had on the WRONG Country station and they never played Martina (or Alan for that matter) and I could not figure out why! Finally I said to myself: "Myself, I'll bet there is more than one Country staion in Rochester!". (A rather compelling thought on my part! LOL) And I'll be darned there was!

Yes, at times I am a little slow on things!
