Forget going to #1- I am wondering when the album will go platinum. From what the fellow board members state - it is when 1 million albums are shipped. In theory RCA could ship all of the albums out - and that would certify the album correct?

I am wonder when that will happen at this point in the game. Martina seems to be doing well on tour, and has even been a number of shows including American Idol to promote the album..

This is kinda dissapointing, but I know it doesn't matter to Martina...she's said that she'd rather have the fans, than have the #1 albums and songs. I may have to go out and buy another copy again today

her album may not be doing as well as we all would like- but her tour seems to be doing more than ok.. I think she is the only head lining female country act right now (not counting Faith- Tim is technically headlining that tour)...

Judging by the album sales decline, many artists have losts chunks of fans. IMO

In related news, Martina was credited as one of the few big names who released a new album during the 1st and 2nd quarter of 2007 at the NARM convention that she closed out on May 2.

Album sales during the 4th quarter (October-December) have dropped by 50% since 2000. Everyone says just wait until the 4th quarter of 2007 to see album sales rise again, but I'm saying it won't be that great because people just don't buy CD's like they use to.

I just hope WUL goes Platinum before the release of Martina's next album. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/unsure.gif)

Thats odd if you think about it. Martina and Tim Mcgraw have had great years touring there seem to be no shortage of fans at the concerts- and yet the lastest album sales for these two do not reflect that at all. I am also wondering how Gretchen, Big & Rich, Terri Clark, Reba, and Faith Hill will do this year- along with a number of others set to release albums.

Carrie has a "built in fanbase" so she should do well- if she doesn't then the industry needs to go back to the drawing board and re- evaluate how calcuate sales..

I just read that the new owners of Napster are losing money.

I think Carrie's new album could sell 1 million first day. Call me crazy because I'm feeling it right now.

I think that they should count iTunes CD sales. I mean a lot of people buy the CDs off iTunes instead of in the stores...not just for Martina, but for everyone. If they counted those, then the numbers would be way higher. I dont see why they dont count them. I mean they are still the whole CDs and people are still buying them.

I think it would be SO cool if Carrie sold 1 million on the first day for her new CD. Im probably one of the only people here, including Kim and Devon and a few others, that still loves Carrie and loves to see her do good! I just wish Martina could have the same because she deserves it.

I didn't know that they don't count iTunes sales. Personally, I buy all of my albums from iTunes. I don't see the point in going to the store to buy one for $12.99-15.99 when I can get it for $9.99 on iTunes. It's not like the artists are getting that extra few bucks from in-store sales.

I think American Idol helped a lot for downloads but not very much for album sales in the stores. I was on i-tunes a few days after her American Idol appearance and both Anyway and A Broken Wing were in the Top 10 country songs, and WUL and GH were in the Top 10 country albums. So it definitely had an impact on downloads. But like others said, too bad downloads don't count toward the certification.

The first week of release you can usually get new albums for $9.99 from Target or WalMart...the benefit of buying them the first week. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)
