I am new to this board, as well as recent fan of Martina. I have only heard a handful of her songs, but would like to discover more of her music. Is their a particular album that stands out among fans?

I would say the obvious choice for a new fan is the "Greatest Hits" package, but with that said, I don't think Martina's ever cut a bad song so by no means with the "hits" package be all you want. See which songs you like the best on the hits disc and then go check out the original albums they came from.

I agree with Darren here. If you like the Greatest Hits, THEN go back and discover the "hidden gems". I know many people think, "How can you get better than the Greatest Hits?" Well, you can! LOL! Martina herself has said some of the best stuff goes unnoticed on albums. Artists like The Beatles and Led Zeppelin's albums were PACKED with great songs that weren't singles.

BUT......if you wanna go straight to a "regular" album, I'd say go for her most recent (for the time being anyway!), "Martina". Has a good cross section of her styles. If you want the "poppier" side of Country, go for "Emotion". If you want a more "traditional" Country sound, go for "The Time Has Come".

Hope this helps!

Thanks for the responses so far. I figured that a hit package was a place to start. With that in mind, I have two more questions:

1. Is there a particular version that is the most complete (i.e. overseas editions)?
2. On a local station, I heard what I believe to be an alternate version of "This
One's For The Girls." At first, I thought it was The Coors. Have many fans here
heard this mix and is it commercially available? I actually like both versions,
but wanted to know if maybe the remix was on a CD or was it strictly promo.

"This One's For The Girls" was remixed for AC radio in 2004 and spent over 10 weeks combined at #1 on the Billboard and R&R AC radio charts.

For a time the remix was available at Target stores on there exclusive Martina CD called "On Target".

For a short time I thought, "Breathless" by The Corrs was a Shania Twain song until I did some research that resulted in a life changing discovery and event! I got to meet The Corrs on August 8, 2004! cool.gif

What's great about Martina's discography is that there's a different "sound" to all of them. Like whateveryousay said, there is a lot of choice and variety.

There is a different version of TOFTG on her "On Target" cd, which was just available in the Target stores. I agree with Whateveryousay, "The Time Has Come" would be if you wanna dig deep to country roots, also "Wild Angels" is a good one for that too, and "Emotion" would be best if you wanna go pop. "Martina" and "Greatest Hits" would be best to start out with because they are more recent and what ever you like from her GH cd, you can go get the origional albums. But you can't go wrong buying any Martina cd, they're all great!!!

I'd say the Greatest Hits CD is a good place to start. With that CD, you'll get a good idea of what a simply amazing voice she has.

Welcome!!!

I'd suggest purchasing "Greatest Hits" and "Emotion". GH will give you the rundown, while Emotion will show you a different side of Martina.

they're the voices I love to hear
and someday when I'm 90
they'll be that wooden rocking chair
I want rocking right beside me
and every day that passes
I love them more and more
they're the ones I'd lay down my own life for
they're everything I ever wanted
and everything I need
I talk about them, I go on and on and on
'cause they're everything to me

My two favorite Martina albums are Emotion and Wild Angels. They sound so completely different, but I love them both to pieces!

Greatest Hits would be best to start with, and then get Martina. Once you've done that, if there are any particular songs that really stand out to you on the Greatest Hits, then go get the original albums!

I've been a fan of Martina since I was 9, and I just now have all of her albums with the exception of The Time Has Come. But that's only because I can't find it.
