I live in the Phoenix area and M has a scheduled concert on October 15th at Veterans Memorial Coliseum on October 15th. I was planning to buy tickets this weekend, but now they have put 1,000 Katrina evacuees in the coliseum. Does anyone have any way for me to find out whether or not this concert will be moved/rescheduled or (God forbid) cancelled? Any help would be appreciated greatly! My five year old daughter loves M to death and knows all her songs by heart. She is so excited to see M in concert and I am too!! Thanks!

I was planning on going to Phoenix so I just looked on the Arizona State Fair Website and read:

"As you may know, Katrina evacuees are currently housed at the Veterans Memorial Coliseum on the Arizona Exposition and State Fairgrounds.

The Arizona Exposition and State Fair is working closely with the Governor's Office and State Officials to ensure a continuity of care for the evacuees as they transition to permanent locations.

The Qwest Concert Series for the Arizona State Fair will go on-sale as planned on Saturday, September 10th at 10:00 a.m. and Fair preparations will continue on schedule. Fair dates this year are October 14 - November 6, and the Fair will be closed on Mondays.

Qwest Concert Series is FREE with your Fair admission. Or, you may purchase reserved seating through Ticketmaster or the State Fair Box Office at the prices listed below. Reserved seat ticket prices do not include Fair admission. Reserved seats go on-sale Saturday, September 10 at 10:00 am. State Fair Box Office open for walk-up sales only."

So, it looks like the concerts are still on...

If I can't get great seats for this concert, I will not be going because gas might be $5 by Oct. 15th and Martina appears likely to tour in 2006.

I'm also trying to find the pre-sale password that will be needed on Friday for the internet pre-sale, if the pre-sale is still going to occur as scheduled.

Thanks for all the info everyone. I guess I will just have buy my tickets and then wait and see what happens. I'm sure if they cancel it they will refund the purchase price. You sure can't beat $20 a seat though!

Daniel, if you get the pre-sale password and don't mind sharing PLEASE let me know at [email protected]. Thanks!

Thanks for the updates.

As our flights are non-refundable we are naturally hoping that the show is able to go ahead, but obviously the needs of the evacuees come first.

Even if there wasn't a show I would hope that all evacuees would have been transfered from sports stadia to a better standard of temporary accomodation within six weeks (Perhaps the setting up of temporary trailer parks where possible) although it is an enormous logistical problem.

Incidentally, I think I read (On mlb.com) that the Astrodome had stood empty for much of the last three tears, so there probably wasn't much to cancel there.
