Hi Everyone, this was my first martinafest and my first time meeting martina.
She is just awesome. She made everyone feel so at ease like we've known her personally for years. Claude prety much said it all. i just wanted to add how wonderful she was to all of us. She made us feel like we actually mattered to her. Not too many artist can do that. Martina listened to what we had to say and even commented that we know her too well. that we've seen too many concerts and know what to expect!!!! The only thing I found dissapointing(only a fraction ) is that she did sing whatever you say as we requested, but she left out that incredible ending that she does so well!!! i was so looking forward to that. But it was still amazing! So maybe the word dissapointing in not exactly the correct term to use. Everything about that day was amazing and i will never forget it. Thanks to all who was involved. Our luggage showed up as we got back to the hotel, about midnight after the Thursday Martina show. So, we were without our luggage for THREE out of five days. Good thing we didn't believe the airline lady, on Tuesday, and bought a few items in Buffalo! Sue in Minnesota |

Ha Ha. Yes, it did. When we arrived at our hometown airport of Rochester, Minnesota, we were missing one piece of luggage. It came the next night. It was not near as bad having missing luggage when we were at home than it was having ALL of our luggage missing for THREE days, while in Canada. Sue in Minnesota |

Yea, i know. I knew i was going to get the year wrong(that why i said "around"1996, but it was in 1993 or 1994. Everything else is correct. I told Keith and Sue in Rama, that i have a great memory, except for the years!!!! In 3 years from now, i ll be able to describe you everything that happened at Martinafest 2006, but i might not be sure if it happened in 2006, 2005 or 2007, if you know what i mean. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Well, another fan was named Debbie, that s probably where i got confused. Well, if i cant be with Martina, i m glad she is with a great guy like John. it s the next best thing for her ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Here other stuff that happened at the soundcheck:(nothing earth shattering....just more details about it: -When someone commented how young Martina looks, Martina replied(i think): "John keeps me young", then John said the line (jokinkly of course) that it was Martina who was sucking all the life from him. -Someone at the begiinning of it, John opened a bottle of water, and offered one to anyone who asked. Someone(not sure who) took on his offer, so John threw(gently) a bottle of water to that person. -John commented that his daughters were interested sound engineering(in reference to Emma working the lights....). He commented that Sound engineer is good career if you are wiliing to learn. -Somewhere near the beginning, i remember Martina putting her hands together for a second(like a prayer) r thanking God, But i can t remember why anymore. -Somewhere near the beginning, Martina asked what exactly is Rama. I replied that it is an indian reserve. John asked if there was anything interested to do in the region. I replied there s a lake and he could rent a boat, but besides there s not much to do in Orillia. -After the question for Canadian Idol. John asked something about the contestants(if we like them or something). I replied:"There s a girl from Quebec". It s right after that he said "Is Quebec still part of Canada". That was the tie-in in those 2 separate topics. -Near the end, when fans requested "Where would you be?" and Martina replied she would do it. I said "Alone?" and turned to Sue and said "right Sue!"(I was referring to a show in Rama 3 years ago, when a fan offered $39 to sing it with Martina, and the fan almost ended up singing it alone, which disappointed some fans like Sue and Dave for instance.). Martina not knowing what i was referring to, turned to me for more explanation and i mentionned that fan who gave her $38 to sing it with her a few years back. -Like Tina said, Martina mentionned that we know her too much. Her exacts words(if i remember correctly) were: "You know all my tricks!". She did glimpse in my direction(among others) when she made that comment!!! I was going to mention Christine having those 2 dolls autographed but she mentionned it already. I think it s complete now, but if i think of something else i ll be back....... -Claude This post has been edited by Claude on Aug 5 2006, 02:21 AM |

Ockay another thing that i now remember:
Near the beginning, someone asked when a new album will come out. John answered that they were working on one and it will come out next year(i think he said spring, but i may be wrong here...). "You know how the artists are" he said, teasing Martina About the possible canadian tour, he also hinted that Carolyn Dawn Johnson could be the opening act(although i didnt hear myself, but 2 other fans: Grant and Jerry, did hear it....). If i can remember anything else, i could probably keep this thread alive til Christmas -Claude P.S: If you are all thinking that this is a just an inconscious lazy pathetic attempt to bump this thread on top............you are probably right! |

I recall John basically saying that for the album to be out in February, it would have to be finished in November because it takes a few months for everything to be a go. Let's keep the fingers crossed that by Christmas time, they will have some good news to share, like a release date. To answer Claude's question, I didn't catch CDJ being mentioned as then opening act. But I will try to see her on labour day weekend here in Paris, ON if everything works outs. The only thing Claude seems to have left out is his comments on the shows and a comparison of the set lists of the two shows. But I could be speaking a few days too soon. |

[QUOTE] Grant, Sorry i thought you were one of those who mentionned CDJ. Not sure how it was "hinted" then, and it sure doesnt look like official by any stretch of the imagination. It would become official only and only when CDJ takes the stage.... I am not planning on writing reviews about the shows. I was disappointed by the crowds, especially on the 2nd night. Singalongs never work at Casino Rama, that s for sure!!! The best way to reach that crowd, is to do exactly what Martina did 2 years ago when she (sort of) invited people to write a song on a piece of paper and to give it to her. It turned the show to a very interactive relation between Martina and the audience. But then again, there s always the time-limit problem in Rama,so that s probably she didnt do it this time. I know she sang "Love s the only house" on the 1st show but didn t sing on the 2nd. Like i mentionned at the gathering, i felt her best rendition of the 1st show was "Stand by your man". When she belt that note near the end of it, it was something to hear. I remember thinking: "Wow, that s the Martina i came to see!!!". On the 2nd show, she sang "How far", "Help me make it through the night" and "Somewhere over the rainbow"(she didn t sing those on the 1st show). Personnally, i really like "Help me make it through the night" cause that s the closest she came to sing an Olivia song(those i talked to, during Martinafest will understand why here). Olivia did cover that song on an early album many years ago. Interesting enough, Olivia sings "I dont care who s right or wrong" while Martina sings "I dont care what right or wrong". Interesting change of lyrics here. ------------------------------------------------------- Ok, beleive it or not, i still have more stuff to add my original post: -During the soundcheck, after she sang WGFWGTB, Martina teased Jennifer(Wrinkle) by telling her that it was the song who gave her job!! -Near the beginning, i asked the McBrides if their kids started to talk, like using EH all the time, since they are in Canada. They didnt. -At the place where John talks about Martina singing with Dean Martin, i think he said: "Martina totally knock it out of the ballpark"(or something close that) to describe how Martina blew away people during the recording. -Near the beginning, John mentionned that his daughters have very different personnalities. I think that s it. If i can t think of anything else i may have to make stuff up(i m kidding, i m kidding......). -Claude |

Yesterday i watched a DVD that includes Martina singing at the CMT festival on CBS(the year she sang "This one s for the girls" and "Independance day")
Well at the beginning of it, she met 2 country fans who spend the day with her. Well the reason i m bringing this, cause that s the show in which she said "Blue M&Ms are wrong!" and i thought it was so funny, cause she said it in the same way as she did with us at Martinafest. There s something endeering about the fact that Martina has likes and dislikes like the rest of us mortals. She likes peanut butter and hates Blue M&Ms(just the blue ones that is.....) -Claude This post has been edited by Claude on Sep 22 2006, 10:01 PM |
