My husband & I were talking the other night about the concept Vince came up with for his new album coming out soon and how that might be able to open doors for other artists to do the same. We feel that this could be right up Martina's alley.

Vince is releasing an 4 disc set next month. Each disc is a different style of music. One bluegrass, one country, one rock, and one R&B (the smoochy bluesy CD I'm really looking forward to). Vince is great at all these style and co-wrote each of the 43 original songs in the set.

Can you name any other singer in Nashville who could pull this off besides Vince? Um . . . . let me give you a hint . . . . initials M.M.? LOL

OK, so lets talk ROCK! Heck everyone knows she totally kicked butt on Crossroads with Pat Benetar! I mean, who still gets goosebumps every time she hits the high note on "Promises In The Dark"? Some other cover's she's done:

Natural Woman
Blue Bayou
You're Still the One
I Can See Clearly Now
Two More Bottles of Wine
When Will I Be Loved
and of course "Hit Me With Your Best Shot"

I also consider "Show Me" in this category. OMG that song totally kicks butt!
I would love to hear that live some day. So yeah, Martina can do rock!

And everyone knows she's the master at country and she can do any style of it. She just proved (with Timeless) that she really is the "FEMALE MERLE HAGGARD" like she original set out to be when she first came to Nashville. I'm glad her dream came true.

Blue Grass . . . oh heck yeah! Some songs she's done that I consider in this group would be "I'll Fly Away", "I Still Miss Someone", "Reluctant Daughter", and "The Rope". I'd love to see Martina do some work with Alison Krauss & Union Station, more with Dolly & Ricky Skaggs, and some of the other great singers & musicians in this category.

And of course I saved the best for last . . . the smoochy bluesy love song turn out the lights and light the candles disc I've been waiting for since I first heard Martina's amazing voice. Now THAT'S the album I want Martina to make! "At Last"! Need I say more? BRING IT ON Martina . . . . give us more!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm still waiting for my smoochy love song duet with Martina & Vince. This would be the perfect place to do that and I know Vince would go for it, heck he'd probably be the one to write it. That would be a dream come true for me! Martina & Vince . . . . sigh!

So what do you all think? Can't Martina sing the phone book and make it sound good? I can't wait for Martina to break out and do everything God has given her the talent to do. I am so amazed every day at her vocal ability. I can't wait to see what's in store for us die hard crazy fans. I'm looking forward to years and years of amazing music.

I'd definitely like to hear Martina do an entire album of Linda Ronstadt songs which would of course include the LR songs that we've already heard like "Blue Bayou", "Silver Threads and Golden Needles", and "When Will I Be Loved".

I'd also wish for a Rock/Pop album of songs by Pat Benatar, Heart, Scandal, & Celine Dion. I think it'd also be real cool to hear M's version of Bonnie Tyler's "Total Eclipse Of The Heart".

I'm not really into Jazz, but after hearing "At Last", I agree that an all-Jazz album by Martina would definitely be awesome!

It wouldn't necessarily have to be "jazz" . . . I'd be happy with an album of just all slow lovey dovey smoochy stuff. biggrin.gif

Good to see that you and Steve still feel like a couple of Newlyweds! biggrin.gif

She'll probably never do it, but I'd love to hear Martina sing Olivia Newton-John's "I Honestly Love You".

(No matter what Claude and Tim/trublufool say, Olivia was thinking of ME when she sang that song, lol. tongue.gif)

I would like to hear Martina do some classic Motown. Just imagine her renditions of What Becomes of the Broken-Hearted, Heat Wave, My Guy, Don't Mess with Bill.

I would definitely pay to hear that. Big time (as they say here in Washington).

Cordially,
Tom

There's a song on Gretchen Wilson's sophmore albulm called "He Aint Even Cold Yet" the first time I heard it I could picture Martina singing it. If you haevn't heard it, I suggest you try to its a great song.

Hee hee . . . well since we're Martinaville's first official couple we do have a reputation to uphold! Afterall, it was our mutual love for Martina's music that brought us together. Can't get enough of that smoochy stuff! smile.gif

I see your crush for Olivia is still burning strong! IMO Martina can sing anything. It's one of my favorites. I used to perform this one a lot. I probably could still play it if I dust off my piano.

I would love to hear Martina do a bluegrass album with Patty Loveless or Alison Krauss.

Perhaps she could do some form of concept album with a tour that involves new arrangements of her older songs. In 1995 Robert Plant and Jimmy Page did a tour with a traditional orchestra and a middle eastern ensemble and they re-invented a lot of their classic Led Zeppelin songs. A couple of years ago, Sarah Brightman did a tour with a middle eastern sound as well. Perhaps the idea is to do something like an orchestrated album. When it comes to doing a tour, they could work with a local orchestra in each city to plug the new material and at the same time the orchestra could add a new interpretation to Martina's concert staples.

Oh man, that'd be amazing! I'd be in heaven! Alison and Martina! Ahh!! Lol...biggrin.gif

Martina can do MANY different genres and I think that's why she recognized by lots! I mean many many people know who she is for certain little things she did for a different genre. Do you get what I mean?

She just has sooo many talents and I LOVE seeing her spread her voice all around and sharing it! biggrin.gif

Well a little bird told me that Alison may be in Nashville next month for a taping of Country Crossroads. Perhaps Martina should drop in for a little talk with her then. Another good fiddle player I've seen over the past few years is a Canadian player, Natalie MacMaster. I think she would also be a good opening act for Martina on her Canadian tour. She also went to the same fiddle school as Alison and I also saw Alison show up at one of her concerts in the Toronto area a few years ago.

I liked that Crossroads, sort of. As long as I fast forward through the Pat Benatar parts. I just cannot bear her tortured singing of Martina's songs. PB may have had a voice for her own style of music 20 years ago, but I'm afraid it doesn't translate to other styles or eras.

IMHO
