Yea-

I cant figure out awards shows. Martina had one of the best critically acclaimed tours this year and was not nominated.

on a side note: Tim Macgraw was also not nominated for "favorite male artist". I am not a fan- but he did have a BIG year along with Faith...

It is all political: The networks just want "big popular" names on live television to bring in viewers. the viewers bring in Big sponsers- those Sponsers support the network..
ect..

I really can't understand Carrie, except maybe for the teenie boopers. She is a made up star, kind of like the Monkee's of the 60s. Middle of the road talent at best.

Reminds me of a great line in one of my favorite Todd Snider songs where he's having some fun with the music industry. In the song the band he's in stops playing entirely (silence, music's original 'alternative' and all) and in the song Todd says of the record company guy "he said he loved our work but he wasn't sure if he could sell a record without any music on it.. and I said dude.. you've been doing that for years."

With that said, Carrie is by no means the worst I've heard in a while. But Todd makes a valid point on the state of the industry as a whole. laugh.gif

One light in all of this..

check out the names of those nominated for a CMA or AMA and see how many of those have all recorded in Martinas studio. Not to mention the music acts outside of the country music industry that have done mixing ect there...

It may not add up to a trophy on the shelf for Martina - but it says she and John are definately doing ok on that end..

Yup, I agree also. Carrie has a following, so she got nominated because of American Idol. 100% Political....

I heard on the radio that this awards show is based almost entirely on how popular someone is during the period of time before the nominations and broadcast. They also mentioned success on radio and album sales.

I remember Reba won it in 2004, Reba is awesome and a legend, but Martina truly should have got it then, with all the success from "Martina" and the tour, and the CMA and ACM FV trophys.

But yeah the AMA's do do that, oh well, it's not about the awards.

Timeless is her award....and ours of course. tongue.gif

I think these awards are based mostly on album sales and Timeless was released nearly a year ago. Besides, the winner is chosen from a survey of a small group of listeners. (about 20,000 or so) If only "they" were to ask us here on the board, I am confident we could set them straight that Martina not only should have been nominated, but should win without question.

When did Gretchen Wilson get better than Martina?? I don't think she ever did. Unless they go by her first couple of songs and used Martina's timeless cd as an example.

What I don't understand is why these awards are always about money and sales. Yeah, it's a so-so reflection of overall apeal of an artist but really shouldn't awards like Entertainer of the Year be about how good of an entertainer you are????? As far as that goes, NOONE is better than Martina. She is so amazing on that stage everytime she sings. Noone I can think of performs as well as she does live. She is absolutely the best at what she does, hands down!

That's all I have to say about that.... wink.gif

Agreed.

After our first Timeless show last winter, my wife declared it the best show she had ever been to. She was surprised to find herself feeling this way, and attributed it to the stage presence exhibited by Martina. She noted how those who only ever hear her on the radio will never experience that strong presence that enables her to hold 6000-10,000 people at a time in her thrall. Heck, she did it at Fan Fair with 37000 people!

I've never seen anything like it and I've been to a thousand concerts.

Cordially,

Tom
