Now that we've all had a chance to hear the new cd and all the wonderful new songs, I was thinking about Martina's concerts, and how she is going to fit these songs into a set list.

In her concerts over the past few years, she typically sings:
1. It's My Time
2. My Baby Loves Me
3. Happy Girl
4. Blessed
5. Concrete Angel
6. Over The Rainbow
7. I Love You
8. Valentine
9. Love's The Only House
10. There You Are / From The Ashes
11. Harper Valley PTA
12. Wild Angels
13. Where Would You Be
14. Whatever You Say
15. A Broken Wing
16. Independence Day
17. America The Beautiful / WGFWGTB

18. This One's For The Girls
19. In My Daughter's Eyes

"Safe In The Arms of Love" and "Wrong Again" seem to have already become casualties of a limited set list, cut from the concerts to make room for #18 & #19. "When God Fearing Women Get The Blues" has also been left out of some recent concerts. There are others such as "Cry On The Shoulder of the Road", "Be That Way", "Phones Are Ringing", "Two More Bottles", "Uncivil War", "Cheap Whiskey", "Life #9" - that I've heard her sing (on occasion) in recent years, but I doubt they will be heard much anymore.

MY QUESTION:

Which songs out of the list above would you CUT in order to make room for songs like:

1. How Far
2. Reluctant Daughter
3. Wearing White
4. So Magical
5. God's Will
6. City Of Love
7. She's A Butterfly

Blessings,
Pete

I'm glad I don't have to make that decision! There's too many that I wouldn't want taken out.

Personally, I was very sad to see "Safe In The Arms" and "Wrong Again" get bumped from her concerts. I think those are two of her best songs. And while a number of her songs appeal to women, some appeal to people in relationships and others showcase her power vocals, I thought that "Safe In The Arms" and "Wrong Again" were a few of her songs that spoke to single people. That said, the only songs that I think could be cut from the list to make room for these and others (without me getting slapped too hard) are "It's My Time" and "There You Are". I'm afraid that there are others that are going to be on the way out too.

I wonder if Martina has ever entertained the idea of doing a two hour show with an intermission in the middle so it wouldn't be so taxing on her.

Blessings,
Pete

Good topic Pete! This is the type of question I like to ask.

Ok, let's see, of the songs you listed?

Damn, I'm with Pearl, it's too hard! LOL!

Ok, I'd cut-
Valentine
Love's the Only House
Harper Valley PTA
When God Fearin' Women...

(She has also done I Can See Clearly Now a lot-and I'd cut that too!)

Now, there is nothing WRONG with those songs, they are just the ones I find to be not as great as the remaining songs.

I would add:
So Magical
City of Love
When You Love Me
Show Me

But there are so many others I'd want to add!!

I want "Wrong Again" BACK ON the set list. Take out It's My Time, Love's the Only House, and I guess if she had to Safe in the Arms of Love...

BUT I WANT WRONG AGAIN BACK IN! It's my favorite Martina love ballad smile.gif

Interesting what you said about Good Bye. Best "recorded" song, so does that mean the quality of the track itself, or her performance? I have recently started to like that song a lot.

I have to tease about a typo you have-"gont know why"! LOL! It made me laugh because I was teaching my daughter animal names and she said "Gont" for goat! tongue.gif

wys - Everything about that song is excellent-the intellegent adult Patty Griffen lyrics, M's vocal emo and the musical arrangement. M doesn't get enough credit for the music on her albums. I think most people think it is just her voice that pushes those buttons but the music just unexpectedly seeps into your skin.

Darn I made a ytop! tongue.giflaugh.gif

You listed the three things that make me like the song so much-and what makes it so sad.

The music, the lyrics, and Martina's voice altogether make it such a touching, moving song!

I'd give her an all night concert, and let her intermission any time! I don't want songs cut! They're important! I'm not too crazy bout MBLM, I kinda think it's boring! Don't kill me! unsure.gifI do like it though! ohmy.gif

I go to churn the butter! (said in one of my foreign accents!) I love math! Factor this: 2x squared + x -3! Did you get (2x +3)(x -1)? I hope so! Next time, I'll let you derive something! Remember kids, don't drink and DErive! I love my daddy! Martina's new album is sounding great!

Don't cute whatever you say! That's one of her best live songs! I would say I love you, valentine, and WGFWGTB. not that I dislike these songs, but they're just not my favs along with blessed. I would love to see Wrong Again added back, because they only time i heard her sing it, was my first Martina concert in '99. Anyways any song she sings will be good and you'll definately get your moneys worth with whatever she decides!

I am racking my brain to figure out what song "Good-by" is. As far as the song list I think four songs that I would take off the show are "Wrong Again", Valentine, "Wild Angel", and "My Baby Loves Me". I have been to several concerts and I know those that have are ready for some new music. I think she might have a medley of songs from her first album and second album might be presented. Like Cheap Whiskey.
