I was checking out the October 10th issue of Radio & Records to see what they said about Martina's new album and it's first week sales.

They said and I quote "RCA Nashville cowgirl Martina McBride" debuted at #7 on the all format album sales chart.

Talk about a bad label to place on someone? sad.gif

I know what you mean about the stereotype placed on country music. I still know people who won't listen to country because they think all it is, is "I lost my dog, my wife, my truck, so I'm going to cry in my beer." kind of music.

I've been trying to get some of them to listen to Martina so they can see that country music isn't like that anymore, so I can show them how ignernt they are.

Any of you still encountering that stereotype from people?

You don't think that sounds like M? Think This One's for the Girls. I'm not talking MINI min-skirts...but mid-calf...and ummm if those boots she wears aren't stillettoes, then I don't know what stillettoes are wink.gif

I am. My youth pastor has a joke about country music...

What do you get when you play a country song backwards?
--Your dog, your wife, and your car (and whatever else that you lost).

And Martina, a cowgirl? ha ha ha ha

i also have encountered people who have a sterotyped view of country music. but there is hope. my uncle, who is 78 and a die hard jazz fan, likes some of the country artists i have played for him. michael

It drives me crazy when people talk about country music and refer it trucks, beer, and that sort of thing. Some is like that, but not all of it.

Maybe that writer was calling Martina a cowgirl because she grew up in Kansas, who knows?
