I was just woundering what song/album turned you in to a Martina fan? It was "Blessed" for me I LOVED that song so much, I'd call the radio station like 24-7 asking them to play it! And then I got her Greatest Hits cause Blessed was on it and I started to listen to the other songs...and I was hooked!!!

I dream about you
Waiting for the look in your eyes
When we meet for the first time
Darling did you know that I
I pray about you
Praying that you will hold on
Keep your loving eyes only for me

I am waiting for
Praying for you, darling
Wait for me, too..."

Without a doubt, I Love You.

My wife had been a semi-country fan for awhile when it came out, and I was hearing country songs here and there that I was getting into. That one REALLY stood out. I just loved the flow of it.

For a long time I called it my fave Martina song, but that goes to Whatever You Say now.

Great question, BTW!

"I Love You." This song just jumped out at me.
As I wrote in an essay..."I love this song for her light and airy voice (the powerful one, I came later to discover) and it remains one of my favorite songs ever."

I'm an original fan, I've been a fan since 'My Baby Loves Me', % 'Life #9' also added to it, 'Independence Day' was the one that put it in motion, her songs continued to be some of my top fav songs ever, and I have always loved her voice biggrin.gif

Independence Day, A Broken Wing, and Valentine, in that order of importance. BECAUSE...

I knew Martina sang "Valentine." I was starting to listen to country and was familiar with "A Broken Wing" and liked it somewhat. Then I saw the video for Independence Day. That was it. Within I'd say a month I had "Evolution" in my hand smile.gif

WEll to say I love "WYS"is an understatement. This song rocks.. It rocks as a studio cut and even more so live" as any Martina concert goer will attest. This by far my fave M song. I became a huge fan of M's during my conversion from rock to country. She was at the Countryfest in Boston and went to see her along with some others. She totally won me over.. M you ROCK! wink.gif

I'd always liked Independance Day, and I saw I Love You, Love's The Only House, and Whatever You Say on CMT and loved them, but the song that turned me into a hardcore fan was WGFWGTB!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! biggrin.gif

I knew and liked "My Baby Loves Me" and "Independence Day" when they first came out, but it wasn't till "A Broken Wing" that Martina really caught my attention. I just loved that song so much. It was my favorite of hers for a really long time, and still is one of my top Martina songs, but once I got a little older and wiser and realized how great "Independence Day" really is, that became my #1 favorite. It still baffles me that I didn't catch on to it right away... rolleyes.gifProbably because I didn't really understand what it was about at first (hey, I was 11 or 12 when it was released). It took me the longest time to figure out what "Daddy left the proof on her cheek" meant, lol. The music video was a big help.

My becoming a big fan of Martina's was a 3 step process:

1) Seeing the video "Independnce Day".........that Martina McSomething really reminded me of Pat Benatar. So she was on my radar screen from that point on.

2) "Whatever You Say".......I realized that this Martina was NAILZ vocally. WOW! So at that point anytime I could catch her on TV or listen to her on the radio I was paying attention.

3) The announcement of Crossroads.........finally my early Martina/Pat camparisons were confirmed and I have been a die-hard Martina fan ever since!!

Hey, a little slow in coming around but as they say "Even a blind squirrel finds an acorn sometimes"!

I go to churn the butter! (said in one of my foreign accents!) I love math! Factor this: 2x squared + x -3! Did you get (2x +3)(x -1)? I hope so! Next time, I'll let you derive something! Remember kids, don't drink and DErive! I love my daddy! Martina's new album is sounding great!

Thanks for the question! Here's my story...... biggrin.gif
Last summer I was at Circuit City...they have a Memorial or Labor Day sale, can't remember what, but anyway, all their cd's were $9.99. I just happened to walk by the Country section and there was Martina with her Greatest Hit's CD. It was kind of hard not notice her with that American Blue background, her bright smile, and that flag tank top. I had just started listening to country music 24-7 and I thought I'd buy her cd. Thinking back, I had first heard of Martina when I heard "Valentine," with Jim Brickman. I never really took much notice of her because I never really started listening to country music until last summer. Anyway, I had then seen or heard her everywhere with Concrete Angel (everytime I turned on the radio or turned on CMT, there she was!) So...I bought the cd. Keep in mind, this is when I first started listening to country music. I was mostly into Pop/Rock music at the time, so "Blessed," "I Love You," "There You Are," etc, were pretty easy to listen to. It took a little while for the other songs to grow on me, but then, then....a magical thing happend....I saw the light!!! Martina had one of the most powerful and clear voices of any woman I'd ever heard, any genre. And her songs were so real, meaningful, and uplifting. I had discovered that there was a completely different world of music out there, and Martina was its queen. "Blessed" quickly turned into my favorite song... and her Greatest Hits cd never left my CD player at home or in the car, until "Martina" came out this September. Meanwhile, I've gotten almost every Martina McBride cd there is, trying to play catch up because I got into this game a little late. Thanks to her "Greatest Hits" cd, I can honestly say that I now am a full-blooded Martina McBride fan!!! My family and friends are even beginning to call me "Martinton." Thanks for listening to my story! And thanks to everyone here at Martinaville who makes this a great place! You guys are great. biggrin.gif
