Billy Ray Cyrus and Miley Cyrus to Host CMT Music Awards
Father and Daughter Will Also Perform During the April 14 Telecast

Billy Ray Cyrus and his daughter, Hannah Montana star Miley Cyrus, will host the 2008 CMT Music Awards, the show's organizers announced Tuesday (Feb. 26). Additionally, the two will also perform during the awards show airing live on April 14 from The Curb Event Center at Belmont University in Nashville.

"Miley and I are so excited to be hosting the CMT Music Awards," he says. "We know it will be a fun-filled night with a lot of great music performances."

CMT's seventh annual awards show honors country music's elite for the year's most outstanding music videos and performances and continues to be the genre's only fan-voted awards. Previously-announced performers include Alan Jackson, Brad Paisley, Carrie Underwood, Sugarland, Taylor Swift and Toby Keith. Other performers will be announced in the coming weeks.

In 1992, Cyrus took the country world by storm with the breakout single, "Achy, Breaky Heart," which drove his debut album, Some Gave All, to sell more than 9 million copies. His TV work includes starring roles on the Disney Channel's Hannah Montana and his Pax network series, Doc. Last year, he was featured in ABC's Dancing With the Stars and most recently on the CMT reality series, Home at Last. Cyrus' latest Top 5 single from his Home at Last album is "Ready, Set, Don't Go," a duet with Miley. He will soon begin production on The Hannah Montana Movie and in addition to co-starring alongside daughter Miley, he will also serve as the feature film's co-producer. He will be featured in two films scheduled for release later -- Flying By (co-starring Heather Locklear) and Bait Shop (co-starring Bill Engvall).

Miley Cyrus has captivated kids and families on Disney Channel's smash hit comedy series Hannah Montana, the No. 1 cable TV series for kids age 6-14. Released in 2006, her triple-platinum Hannah Montana soundtrack album became the first-ever TV soundtrack to debut at No. 1 on the Billboard 200. In 2007, the 15-year-old followed that record with a two-disc set, Hannah Montana 2/Meet Miley Cyrus, which reached the No. 1 spot on the Billboard 200 and has since earned triple-platinum status. In late January, she completed a 70-date sold-out concert tour and by mid-February had the No. 1 film in the country with the Walt Disney Pictures 3D release, Hannah Montana & Miley Cyrus: Best of Both Worlds Concert. Miley is currently writing material for her forthcoming studio album due later this year on Hollywood Records.

Both Miley and Billy Ray Cyrus are scheduled to begin production in Nashville this spring on The Hannah Montana Movie to be followed by the taping of the third season of the Hannah Montana TV series.

Voting is underway for the 2008 CMT Music Awards.

I'm sorry, I am very happy for all her success and she seems very grounded which is great considering how many teen stars go crazy these days, but I am not thrilled over this announcement. Sometimes she can be to over the top I feel. When they presented the CMA Award back in 2006 (The one with the WHAT?! reaction), I cringed.

Thanks for the info. I'm not thrilled, but I guess they are trying to increase ratings and make more of that almighty dollar.

According to Ryan Seacrest, if Miley keeps going at the rate she is going now she will be a billionaire by 18.

Oh no...it's as I feared.

Disney is slowly taking over Country Music... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/unsure.gif)

I'm not thrilled over this either...not at all...

But at least I have something to laugh at on TV (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif)
Unlike when Foxworthy hosted...OHHHHHH

I agree with this and that Hanna Montana starting to beome overkill and needs to power down a bit if she wants to last more than then next few years. I also think that Billy needs a job or at least his own career....

The Oscars were live on National TV on a Sunday night and had the lowest TV ratings in history- so I do not see this show getting that much attention. Even the ACMs, and CMAs have low ratings and they have all of the superstars on them...

I agree completely.

This could also be an attempt to bring the CMT Awards to a younger audience. Hannah Montana fans, their parents etc.

I was never a Billy Ray fan back in the early 90's when he first rolled out. But I think he's really relaxed and mellowed out since then. His 2007 album Home At Last is a frequent in my playlist. I've liked what I've seen of him over the past 6 months or so. And I did catch his show Home At Last on CMT which showed a much more subdued man. I think fame has been good to him. And Miley is over the top but she, too, has handled her fame very well so far. I'll definitely tune in to see how they do.

I know I should get over his "achy Breaky Heart"days - but he and a few others were the sole reason I disliked country music for years...Then I discovered Martina, Faith, Garth, and Trisha and realized country music is not all bad.

As for Miley- I think she is more HIP-POP than country but then again these days what is country music? I think it is great she is has stayed out of trouble but time will tell what happens after her 15 minutes is up? Her time will come just as it did for father.

I can see the point of bringing her in to try to get more viewers but lets not forget that even the Oscars had one of the lowest rated shows in Oscar history. Maybe CMT should have some of Mileys network cohorts part of the cast from HS Musical to "guest appear" and sing some sort of old style country classic...

Miley is considered Pop. I don't think the reason to have her on is to represent country music as her genre. Although, technically, her duet with her dad did go as high as #4 on the country charts so at least she has that tie to it.

And to say Billy needs his own career is a little unfair. He has been making music and movies since 1992. He released albums in '92, '93, '94, '96, '98, '00, '03, '06, and '07. And has had a movie career going since '00. It's not like he's just been riding on Mileys waves.

I knew he had music after "Achy Breaky Heart" I think because at that time I was so out touch with country music radio that I did not hear anything he had sang in years. I did see his show on cable where he was a doctor and it wasn't bad actually it was better than most of the reality and disney crap that is on TV today.
I still can not get over the "Achy Breky Heart"- someday I will.
