UNC Chapel Hill Student Body President Found Shot to Death on Campus

Chapel Hill Police identified the victim of a shooting Tuesday on the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill campus as 22-year-old senior Eve Marie Carson, the student body president, the Winston-Salem Journal reports.

Police responded to a report of gunshots in the area early Tuesday morning and found Carson's body lying in the intersection of Hillcrest Dr. and Hillcrest Circle.

This is the second murder of a female college student on a southern U.S. campus in as many days. Lauren Burk was shot near Auburn University campus on Tuesday night. Both Carson and Burk are Georgia natives, from towns about one hour from each other.

Police spokesman Lt. Kevin Gunter told the News & Observer of Raleigh that Carson had been shot several times, including at least once in the head. Officials said there are no suspects and no arrests have been made.

Police have asked people to be on the lookout for Carson's blue 2005 Toyota Highlander, with Georgia plate AIV-6690.

UNC Chapel Hill Chancellor James Moeser issued a statement on the university's Web site saying, “We are deeply saddened and numb with grief. … I know how difficult it will be to begin to comprehend something so tragic. Please, as you gather your thoughts and prayers, think of Eve's parents, family and friends.”

The university scheduled a memorial for Carson on campus Thursday afternoon.

Investigation into the shooting is continuing. Anyone with information about the identity of the victim is urged to call the Chapel Hill Police Department, the Winston-Salem Journal reports.

Carson was elected student body president at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in February 2007, and was scheduled to graduate this spring. A native of Athens, Ga., Carson entered UNC in the fall of 2004 as the recipient of a prestigious Morehead Scholarship.

Carson was a pre-medicine student majoring in both political science and biology.

The daughter of Bob Carson and Teresa Bethke, Carson was also the student body president of her high school, Clarke Central, in Georgia.

Patrick Swayze, who starred in Dirty Dancing and Ghost, has been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, his doctor says.

"Patrick has a very limited amount of disease and he appears to be responding well to treatment thus far," Dr. Patrick George says in a statement. "All of the reports stating the time frame of his prognosis and his physical side effects are absolutely untrue. We are considerably more optimistic."

The actor's rep adds: "Patrick is continuing his normal schedule during this time, which includes working on upcoming projects. The outpouring of support and concern he has already received from the public is deeply appreciated by Patrick and his family."

Favre tells Packers he's retiring

Green Bay Packers quarterback Brett Favre has decided to retire.

ESPN's Chris Mortensen reported that according to Favre's agent, Buss Cook, Favre informed Packers coach Mike McCarthy of his decision Monday night.

A sure-fire first-ballot Hall of Famer, Favre, acquired in a trade with the Atlanta Falcons, led the Packers back to the NFL's elite. He retires with 5,377 carrer completions in 8,758 attempts for 61,655 yards, 442 touchdowns and 288 interceptions.

As a player Favre was known for his durability, his willingness to take risks and turn broken plays into big gains and the way his love for the game was evident in the way he played. He went to a pair of Super Bowls in 1996 and 1997, winning it all on his first try, as well as nine Pro Bowls.

Cook said as of Tuesday morning, there were no plans for Favre to hold a news conference.

Favre, who returned for the 2007 season when many thought he should have left the game, had a career renaissance in his final season and led the Packers to the NFC Championship Game, where they lost to the eventual Super Bowl champion New York Giants in overtime.

Mortensen reported that Favre, who wanted the Packers to obtain Randy Moss when he was a free agent last season, had once again pushed for Moss to join the Packers. Favre had spoken to Moss late last week and was willing to commit to more than just this season if Moss and the Packers could come to an agreement. But the Packers did not pursue Moss, who re-signed with the Patriots on Monday.

Got this in an email..

Maybe this is why our American Muslims are so quiet and not speaking out about any atrocities.

Can a good Muslim be a good American?

This question was forwarded to a person who worked in Saudi Arabia for 20 years.

The following is his reply:

Theologically - no. . . . Because his allegiance is to Allah, The moon God of Arabia, not Jesus Christ and the Father and the Comforter or any other religion.

Religiously - no. .. . Because no other religion is accepted by His Allah except Islam (Quran, 2:256 & 257) (Koran).

Scripturally - no. . . . Because his allegiance is to the five Pillars of Islam and the Quran. (Quran 63:1-10)

Geographically - no. . .. Because his allegiance is to Mecca, to which he turns in prayer five times a day.

Socially - no. . . Because his allegiance to Islam forbids him to make friends with Christians or Jews. (Quran: 3,28)

Politically - no. . . Because he must submit to the mullahs (spiritual leaders), who teach annihilation of Israel and destruction of America, the great Satan

Domestically - no. . . . Because he is instructed to marry four women and beat and scourge his wife when she disobeys him (Quran 2:23 & 4:34).

Intellectually - no. . . Because he cannot accept the American Constitution since it is based on Biblical principles, and he believes the Bible to be corrupt.

Philosophically - no . . . Because Islam, Muhammad, and the Quran do not allow freedom of religion and expression. Democracy and Islam cannot co-exist. Every Muslim government is either dictatorial or autocratic.

Spiritually - no. . . . Because when we declare "one nation under God," the Christian's God is the God of the Bible, loving and kind, while Allah is NEVER referred to as Heavenly father, nor is he ever called love in The Quran's 99 excellent names.
Therefore after much study and deliberation, perhaps we should be very suspicious of ALL MUSLIMS in this country.
They obviously cannot be both "good" Muslims and good Americans.

* * * Call it what you wish; it's still the truth. I have read these verses in their Quran!

* * * You had better take heed.

* * * The more who understand this, the better it will be for our country and our future. The religious war is bigger than we know or understand.
And Barack Hussein Obama, a Muslim, wants to be our President?
You HAVE to be kidding?! Wake up America !

Obama even says: if he wins the election, he will be sworn in on the Quran (Koran)---not the Bible!
PLEASE, please pass this on to all in your address book.
