Martina McBride Internet Digest for Sunday, January 26, 1997
------------------------------------------------------------------

Hello everyone, and welcome to yet another issue of the Martina McBride
Internet Digest. There is some big news to report, and if you have been
checking the web page you may already know that the song "Valentine" that
Martina did with New Age artist Jim Brickman is now #10 on the Adult
Contemporary charts! Congratulations to Martina and Jim on a GREAT song!

The song will appear on Jim Brickman's upcoming cd, "Picture This" which
will be released on Tuesday of this week. Another beautiful country lady on
the Adult Contemporary charts is Ronna Reeves, whose duet with Peter Cetera
"SOS" is #20 on the chart! Who would have thought that these two artists
would have so many similarities in their careers!

Both Ronna and Martina's debut cd's came out at about the same time. Both
had long brown hair, and were often confused for one another. When I saw
Ronna at Chicago's Country Fest a few years back, someone asked her about
one of her songs "Cheap Whiskey" which as we all know was one of Martina's
first hits. Well Ronna was a little taken aback by the question, but I
would guess that at the time they both had to deal with the similiarities.
Ronna has not had the radio success that Martina has, but can be found
weekly on the Statler Brothers show. That they are both conquering the AC
charts at the same time is really a neat deal.

I would again like to thank everyone for supporting Martina's music.
Calling your radio stations really helps out when it comes to the success of
a song. I know that alot of you have been writing saying that you are
having a hard time getting the song played, often getting an excuse like "we
don't have that song." Well, let the dj know that the song has moved close
to if not into the top 50, and should be being played!

The web site has been picking up steam also. As we are always looking to
promote the site more, I have started a banner contest. You can find the
information on the home page. Also, if you have a web site, please feel
free to cut and paste the Martina banner that is on the main page of the web
site.

Now on to the submissions:

Subject: An endearing Martina McBride Story

The second time I saw Martina McBride live was when she opened the show for
Brooks and Dunn at the Oakdale Theatre in Wallingford CT in September 1994.
Her 2nd album was a big hit and the crowd was anticipating a great show from
both acts. Martina came out and no one was disappointed. She seemed really
surprised to be performing on a round stage which slowly revolved ( back then
the Oakdale was a theatre in the round). She did a great show and received
2 standing ovations (for Crazy and Independence Day), so I hoped she would
get an encore (which is pretty unusual for opening acts at the Oakdale). I
had told my brother during the show that if she didn't sing Strangers (which
had blown us away the previous year when she opened for Garth Brooks in New
Haven) that if she got an encore I would yell for her to sing Strangers.
Well she did and as she hit the stage and the crowd was settling down I
yelled at the top of my voice: MARTINA, MARTINA STRANGERS
STRANGERS...needless to say everyone thought I was nuts. But I continued on
...MARTINA SING STRANGERS, STRANGERS. Finally she shaded her eyes and said "
What is that you're yelling?" It was still as a pin as I screamed STRANGERS
DO STRANGERS!! She smiled a big smile , kind of laughed nervously, looked at
her band and said:"Well I guess we still know that one". She conferred with
her band for a second and said: "This is the first time in my carrer that
anyone has ever requested one of my songs during the encore...Thank you for
making this evening so memorable." She then went on to thank the whole for
being a wonderful audience. And she blew us all away with the powerful voice
and incredible range she displays singing Strangers. Afterword many people
thanked me for getting her to sing that fantastic song. I know she sold some
CD's the next day!!!!!!

Does anyone know for sure if the single has been released?? I am sure that
it has because people have spoke of seeing the video. I call and call the
radio stations and they all just tell me that it's not on their play list.
I am really getting discouraged at radio and at Martina's label for not
getting on the play lists. This one DJ said that I was the only one that
calls and requests that song. He told me that if other people were to call
then maybe they would consider it. I told him that if he played the song
than maybe other people would call in and request it now and then.
Needless to say I was very unhappy with the turnout. I did see however
that the song is #53 or something like that on the Billboard charts.....so
whoever can get that song played on their radio..please request it for us
also....

Hey Darren,

Just wanted to say that I finally saw (and recorded) Cry on the shoulder of
the road. Could not help myself. It is a great video. Is it just me or
does anyone else hear the slight change in the song near the end? Hope we
see more of this wonderful lady soon...

I thought you might be interested in this. It came off of Billboard
charts.

53 Cry On The Shoulder Of The Road ........... WKS on 1
 *N Martina McBride ............................. PK 53

Martina debuted at #53 with this. That's astounding! Most song
debut in the bottom 50s if they're lucky. Shoot, this is already
almost as high as "Swingin' Doors" went after several weeks on the
chart!

Hi. This is my first time posting but I wanted to share a story with
everyone. Last Friday, I was driving to my friend's house listening to the
"lite" station. This beautiful song came on which I didn't recognize. It
starts with a piano and then this gorgeous voice came on. I'm ashamed to
admit I didn't recognize the voice as being Martina's at first, but I knew I
had heard it before. No kidding! I only have all of her albums! Anyway, I
waited in my friend's driveway until the song was over so I could find out
what it was. Sure enough, it was Martina McBride. The song is by Jim
Brickman, who I think is a New Age artist, and the song was something about
a Valentine. I looked in the record store for an album by Jim Brickman. I
found two but neither had a song title with Valentine in it. Can anyone
help me? This song is so beautiful!

Just as a sideline, I have been a fan of Martina's for many years. I am an
aspiring singer and I have performed "My Baby Loves Me" and "Phones Are
Ringin' All Over Town." She is a huge influence for me and an inspiration.
I only hope to someday have the success she does.
