Martina McBride Internet Digest for Sunday, February 2, 1997
------------------------------------------------------------

Hello everyone, and welcome to another issue of the Martina McBride Internet
Digest. I apologize for not getting a digest out last weekend, but I just
bought a new computer system, and have experienced some dreaded downtime
while trying to transfer everything over. Of course I managed to crash the
system once or twice for good measure!

It is a big week for Martina and Jim Brickman as Valentine climbs the chart
just in time for February 14th! Last I heard it was at #5 on the Adult
Contemporary charts. Congrats to Martina on making her voice heard to a
whole new audience!

Now on to the letters!

MY E-MAIL HAS BEEN ANSWERED!! Finally the program director wrote me and
said that "Cry..." has just entered the charts and he IS considering it for
airplay. I still have not let up on requesting it. I also caught the last
half of the video. Chill bumps, espcially when I noticed she changed it a
little bit at the end. Ohhhh! Chill bumps just thinking about it! That
kind of embellishment from her and any other great female singer (like
Mariah Carey) drives me wild. Send me some e-mail addresses of your (and
everyone's) favorite radio stations so I can help promote the song in your
area! Here's the address of mine: [email protected]. Write them and tell them
you subscribe to the MMID, visit Martina's Official Web Page,
http://martina-mcbride.com and that you are loyal fans to Martina and would
like this song to be Martina's second #1!! DO IT FOR MARTINA!

Thank you for your time.

Does anyone have a recording of the public service announcement
that Martina recorded for the Nashville Police department? I'd
love to hear a copy! I'm also looking for a recording that
Martina did which was played at movie Theatres in the last half
of '96. If anyone can help, please e-mail me at [email protected].

Hello fellow Martina McBride fans! I take it that everyone has seen
Martina's new video. If you haven't.....call in sick to work and keep
watching!!!!! She sings the song a little bit different than on the album.
This version brings Martina's incredible voice even more. Not to mention,
she is looking prettier than ever in this video.
Like the rest of you, I have been phoning and emailing radio stations
requesting "Cry on the Shoulder of the Road". And we can't stop until our
hero gets another #1.
Your fellow McBrider..............talk to y'all later

Hey all,

I noticed that Martina and John were attending the AMA's Monday night. I
watched from nine to about ten till ten. Did she present an award? They
put the camera on her somewhere close to about ten when they were in between
acts or awards. She looked great for that brief moment she was on, they
also flashed her name in a nice pretty font. Just wanted to know if
everyone else caught our favorite artist on the awards show. Maybe someday
she'll be nominated for these awards.

How's the new album coming along? Any plans to get her on the chat line?

Just wondering,

Jimmy

(She did present an award. She looked beautiful as usual! Sorry that
I didn't have any advance warning of her appearance, it was a surprise
         to me too! - Darren)

Hi everyone
I have a question that hopefully someone out there will be able to
answer. The other night I was listening to the national radio show After
Midnite and Suzy Boggus was the guest artist. She mentioned how Martina
was the background vocalist for her song 'Cinderella'. I had never
noticed that before, but I could definately tell when I heard the song
the next time. I am wondering if Martina has done background vocals on a
lot of records and if so, what are the songs that she has sung on?
Thanks for writing if you know!
Angie

-- Paul Marchetti ([email protected])
I have a Martina story that I would like to share. Warning! It's kind
of a long story. Here goes!
Martina is my FAVORITE! Her powerful voice and crystal blue eyes are a
combination that is second to none. Anyways, as I was preparing to go
to Las Vegas this past December, I noticed through her web page that she
was going to perform at the Desert Inn 12/6/96 while I was there. I was
so excited that I called the Desert Inn as fast as I could to get
tickets. I had never seen Martina live or been to Vegas before and was
surprised to find out that the show had what was called "Matre' D
seating" (spelling?). That meant that the host or hostess sat you down
where they felt appropriate and you had to make it worth their while to
get a better seat. Well, I was determined to meet Martina somehow, so I
made the reservations and planned on bringing extra cash for my front
row seat.
Well, my friend and I showed up early but there was already a long line
of people waiting to get in. I was worried that I was going to miss my
front row seat. Sure enough, the host sits us on the second level of
the hall probably about 50 feet from the stage. "These seats aren't
bad", I said, "but can you get us closer?", as I pulled out some money
from my pocket. "Sure!", said the host, and down to main floor we
went. He tried sitting us at the end of one of the tables leading up to
the stage. I stopped him and shook my head, "You don't understand, I
want to meet her". Little did I know that if I was a fan club member I
could have gone back stage. Needless to say, I've mailed in my Fan Club
app. "Well, let me see",as he peered at the front of the stage, "come
this way". My eyes opened wide and I started smiling when I saw him
lead us to a front row seat. My friend didn't hesitate to let me in
first. He knew how much I liked Martina. "Don't smile so much", he
laughed. I was beaming, "I can't help it". The host had just made a
pretty nice tip, he was smiling too.
There was a couple from Seattle sitting across from us and we started
talking before the concert. I told them that Martina was my favorite
country artist and that I was hoping that I could meet her. Just then, a
waitress walked by selling roses. "Buy her one of those!", the woman
across from me exclaimed. "Well all righty then", I flagged down the
waitress, "one rose please". By now my creative juices were flowing,
"Hey, I could write her a note and attach it to the rose!". I wrote,

Dear Martina, You are my FAVORITE! Hope to see you in the country
music business someday. Best of luck to you!.
        Paul Marchetti
        (Phone)

Now don't go thinkin that the phone number was for personal pleasure. I
give marriage the utmost respect and would never interfere with that. I
am, however, a composer and I am trying to work my foot in the door way
to Nashville. No calls, no problem, no way do I expect it to be easy.
I was lucky that the lady from Seattle was nice enough to give me her
baret to attach the note to the rose. "Here you go", as she handed it
to me, "I can't wait to see your smile when Martina walks out on stage".
The lights dimmed and thunder clapped. An electric guitar strummed the
intro to the title song from Martina's latest CD and before I knew it, I
was 10 feet to the left of her tapping my hands on the stage and smiling
like never before. I let a couple songs play and then during the fourth
song, (can you believe I forgot what song it was!), she came over by me
and I handed her the rose. She wasn't singing at this point, (I
would'nt want to interrupt her), and stopped to accept the rose. She
looked right at me with those beautiful blue eyes, smiled, kneeled down,
shook my hand and said thank you. Hmm, let's see, great concert!, your
voice is beautiful, you're my favorite. All of the above would have
made for a nice compliment. My mouth didn't want to work. I just
smiled back at her and left this world for about 5 seconds. What a
moment!
Anyways, the concert was awesome! She played all of her great songs
along with "Crazy" and "When Will I Be Loved". She closed the main part
of the concert with Independence Day, my favorite Martina song (Thank
You Gretchen Peters.) She ended her encore with one of the most classy
and timely selections I think anyone could have come up with. She sang
"Oh Holy Night" accopella. It was getting near Christmas and not only
was it beautiful but extremely appropriate. As she left the stage, she
came by me and shook my hand again. I was speechless again but I think
she knew how I wonderful I thought the concert was.
Some people relate to other people in an unexplainable way that makes
every moment they are together that much more special. I have listened
to people like Garth Brooks, Billy Joel, etc... talk about how they
compose music and they all pointed to one similar fundamental. Write
and sing from the heart. Maybe its only a perception, but when I hear
Martina sing (especially Independence Day), I get the feeling that she
is pouring her soul into the song. I truly think it enables the
performer to relate with their listeners and touch their hearts. It's a
feeling that I strive for in my music. It's a feeling that not many
people display enough of. I have a feeling it's why she is my FAVORITE!
Thanks for stopping by to read my story. I can't wait to see Martina
in concert
again. Maybe this time I'll be able to at least say Hi! See ya.

        Paul Marchetti

(A great story! I hope that Martina likes reading it as much as the
         rest of us! - Darren)

Hey fellow Martina fanatics,
I came across the following on the AP wires this evening and
decided to share:

Los Angeles-Martina McBride is dividing her time between the
recording studio and her two-year-old daughter, Delaney. McBride
has already laid down nine tracks for her next L-P and plans to cut
another six. She says she's never been so excited about any
material. Once she's finished the album, then she goes back out on
the road until the middle of May. McBride says "Delaney will fit
in just like she always has--she goes everywhere on the road
    with us."

Martina:
Wild Angels is one of the best albums I have ever heard. Every
song is great. From Beyond The Blue(My personal favorite), to Two More Bottles
of Wine this is an absolute grade A album. My other favorites are You've Been
Driving All The Time and Cry On The Shoulder Of The Road. Why, on the latter,
did you go back and re-record this song for air-play? I love the album version
much better but that is just my opinion. A Great Disguise is one of the best
written songs I have ever heard. I love the line "Yeah I wear it well, though
it ain't my size" WOW what a line. I can relate to that song so much. I don't
understand why Swingin' Doors didn't do so hot on the charts. That seems like
a great radio song. This album is far better than Patty's Trouble With The
Truth. Your voice is much better as well as the song selection. Well, I can't
wait on a new album but it will have to be SUPER GREAT to beat this one. Come
to Birmingham soon!

Subject: Cry on BB, Valentine on R&R

Darren,

In case you haven't heard, "Cry On The Shoulder" is up to #48 on Billboard's
latest Country singles chart(for week ending Feb 15). And on the R&R's AC
chart for (week ending) Feb 7, Valentine is up to #5! I'll keep and eye out
for the new chart and let you know what happens.

"Cry" slid back one spot on BB two weeks ago and I was afraid it might be
crashing. Maybe the phone calls are beginning to work. (For the four weeks
it's been on the BB chart, the positions were 53,54,52,48. Looks like it
MIGHT be gaining a little momentum. Tell everybody to stay on the phones.

John

Thanks to everyone for writing! See you all next week!
