Martina McBride Internet Digest for 10/26/96
--------------------------------------------

Hello everyone,

As the digest continues to come into it's own here I have a few questions
about what everyone would like to see here. Things like concert dates can
be found on the web site under "http://members.gnn.com/Demon/onroad.htm" so
I don't know if anyone would also like them listed here. Perhaps just newly
added dates should be added to the digests?

If you have any suggestion of anything that you feel should be included in
all/most digests let me know. Keep the submissions coming!! And feel free
to respond to anyone by replying the message back to me at
[email protected].

Here is a brief introduction on me, for those of you who are interested.
I'm 26 years old, and have been a Martina fan since the first album came
out. I saw her open up for Garth Brooks here in the Chicago suburbs. I
actually live about 35-40 miles south of Chicago in a little town called
Mokena. I remember walking into the Garth show a little late, and Martina
was already on stage. At first I remember thinking, hey she's pretty good,
but then she sang "Cheap Whiskey" and I was HOOKED!

I've heard Martina say on quite a few occasions that she likes "story songs"
and I agree that a good song can last the test of time. I got into country
a few years back, and love to listen to George Strait, Garth Brooks, Dwight
Yoakum, Willie Nelson, Waylon and of course Martina!

My main influences, like one of our submissions below, is mainly rock and
roll. I've been a Springsteen fanatic since 14 and have never looked back.
Of course, I consider him the best writer of story songs that I know. I've
got all of Bruce's cd's, plus a lot of concert tapes.

Oh, I also have over 50 Frank Sinatra cd's so the range really runs the
whole board. And, I have to say that while I write this I am listening to a
Guns & Roses cd. So, if anyone wants to discuss almost any kind of music,
I'm your guy!

Of course I think Martina is THE BEST country performer around!

Enough about me, let's hear from some other Martina fans!!!

I have been a huge fan of Martina even before she hit it "big". We first
saw her in concert back in the beginning of 1993...and she was so nice and
the most powerful singer that I had heard..still no one compares to her
voice. I would have to say out of all the country music singers..Martina
is my favorite because she is nice..she signs autographs and pictures after
every show...and also her hubby John is the nicest guy in Nashville that
there is. Martina has remember me after every show even the very first one
back in 1993 when I was pregnant and to this day she still asks me how my
daughter is doing..now is that caring or what? I know that this is getting
sent to Martina so I just want to say hello to her and wish her the best of
luck and love that album "Wild Angels" it is fastly approaching the "worn
out" phase..haha

Everybody get on your phones and start requesting "Swinging Doors" we can't
let a great single with so much radio friendly lyrics to fade away. DO IT
NOW!!!!!!!!!!

Your friend,
Rachel

Subject: Another CD featuring Martina McBride

Hello there....My name is Kelli Beitlich, I'm a 17 yr. old fan of
Martina's. I ABSOLUTELY LOVE ALL OF HER WORK!! =)
I live in Minnesota, so whenever Martina makes it to the midwest, I'm there!
I think she is THE most talented ( and beautiful ) of all female country
music vocalists, and it was a shame that she did not win at this years CMA's....
Well, on to what I am mailing you about.....

I recently purchased a CD that i knew martina was on...It is a Christmas
album with many different artists featured, including, Amy Grant and Suzy
Bogguss. Martina sings "Oh Holy Night" to begin the album and she does
an absolute WONDERFUL job...She starts with acapella and then the music
joins in...if you really want to hear the purity of her voice and her use
of verbratto, BUY IT!!! I really don't care for the rest of the CD, but
to hear MArtina sing, it was worth it!!!

YOu should at least profile this album for Martina fans on your
list...k..?

Thanks for taking the time!!! =)

Sincerely,

Kelli Beitlich

(Thanks for the info Kelli! There's another cd
that I've got to buy now!!! :) -Darren

Hey everyone,
Welcome back! It's great to have the digest back up and running.
Firstly, I must introduce myself. My name's Dave and I'm not
exactly your typical Martina McBride fan. My musical tastes generaly
lean more towards heavy metal than country/western. Although my good
friend Connie has been trying very hard to expand my country horizons.
I got turned on to Martina's music a few years ago while channel
surfing one night. I passed Crook and Chase and there was Martina
singing 'My Baby Loves Me' Her voice instantly caught my attention and
I sat through the entire interview. A few months later I heard the
song again in a record store and out of curiocity I bought the CD.
Well, I'm still a metalhead and I still love my music loud, but I
also have all three of Martina's CD's. I even record TNN when I know
she's going to be on.
So as you can see, I'm not exactly a typical fan.
I look forward to hearing from everyone on the mailing list.
Thanks for bringing it back!!!

        Dave Anderson
