Martina McBride Internet Digest for Sunday November 17, 1996
------------------------------------------------------------

Hi everyone,

We really need to keep manning the phones and letting our local radio
stations know that we want to hear Swingin' Doors! Like a few people have
said, it is too good of a song to let die this quickly. It goes to show that
Country stations are really bowing down to the marketing machine behind some
letter artists who seem to get a lot of airplay.

There are a few major events happening at the web site this week, and
I can let everyone in on a few of them. The first is we are hitting the one
year mark! I don't know exactly what date the page originally went up, but
it was late November! And, we are about to hit the 20,000 counted mark, which
leads me to believe with the web counter only working about 90% of the time that
we've already hit 20,000 but it will look neat on the screen!

With these two events, expect to see some cool things on the page over
the next couple of weeks, along with a few surprises... I could tell you all
about it right now, but what fun would that be?!?!

Thanks to everyone who submitted this week, including Liz Beavers who
tries to answer some of the questions that have been raised here! With that
said, let's get to the letters!

-Darren

Hello to Darren and my fellow Martina fans,

Wasn't Martina great singing on the Grand Ole Opry Live TNN television show!!
Wild Angels was great but I think Martina singing Strangers stold the show!
It gave me goosebumps. She sure has a beautiful voice. I know you all agree.
It moved me so much that I just had to write in and tell you all.

Take Care,
Cindy

Martina Fans

I have an idea on how to request "Swingin' Doors" to radio stations across
the nation. E-mail them! Go to a web browser and search country radio
stations. If we do it several times a day, we could get our message across.
Let's make them regret getting on-line. This is excellent for someone like
me who can't afford to rack up a high telephone bill calling in-state radio
stations. This way I can make requests across the nation. I want to thank
Rachel for making this problem known.

Get on-line and let's make this work! This is too good of a song to let die
this early!

Jimmy

Hello Everyone,

Just wanted to remind all of you who subscribe to Music City News Magazine that
in the December issue, we should all vote for Martina for Female Artist.
Also Single and Video too.

If your having trouble deciding on the male vocalist how about giving Toby Keith
the vote. I have met him 3 times and he is so nice and he can really sing too.
I would appreciate your help.

Thanks so much,
Cindy

Hi Darren and Martina Fans:

I too was lured to Martina's music by her great song, Independence Day. But
since the release of Wild Angels, I became a true fan for life and I probably
will never get tired of listening to this title song. I first saw Martina at
Fan Fest 96 in LA. I was overwhelmed w/her performance that I decided to
attend the FC party. The trip there was worth it as I sat at the second
table from the front and enjoyed the best concert ever. Again, I saw Martina
at the LA county fair in Sept. and I am looking forward to her performances
in Vegas in Dec.

In regards to the Crazyhorse live recording, I am looking for that cd too.
However, I have the Accoustic Country, live at the Opreyland Hotel. If
anyone would like a trade, let me know. In closing, I would like to share my
favorite top 10 Martina songs:

1. Wild Angels
2. Independence Day
3. Phones Are Ringin All Over Town
4. The Rope
5. Safe In The Arm Of Love
6. A Great Disguise
7. Cry On The Shoulder Of The Road
8. That's Me
9. When You Are Old
10. Walk That Line

If anyone would like to talk Martina, don't hesitate to em me anytime.

A True Blue Fool,
JoeMartina again was great on the Grand Ole Opry Live. She sang my favorite,
Wild Angels and Strangers. BTW, who called her this morning requesting
Strangers? Joe

I have the Crazy Horse CD. At one of Martina's concerts a year
and a half ago, I showed it to her and asked if she was aware
that there was a bootleg out there. She was not, and asked me to
send her photocopies of the CD and liner notes. I did that, and
was wondering if she planned to sue the distributor! I guess she
didn't, since I never heard anything about it.

If you'd like, I can make a copy.

                                                John

Hi Darren,

It's Liz! Just a couple of answers to some of the questions people were
asking about in the Digest.

>From what Mark Hively and Martina have told me, "Live at the Crazy Horse" is
a bootleg CD. Martina has never received compensation for it. Neither did
any members of the band who played that night. I ought to know, Brett was
still playing for Martina at the time, and he has NEVER received any money.
So, that's why the CD is hard to find now. After Martina found out about
it, I think it pretty much disappeared. As far as I know, it was never
available at record stores, only through the internet. Anyway, meant to tell
you that last time, but forgot.

Regarding Deryl Dodd: He used to play for Martina (lead guitar), but quit to
pursue his own record deal. He now has a new album on the Sony/Columbia
label titled "One Ride In Vegas", just released last month. In between
Martina and his own record deal, Deryl played acoustic guitar for Tracy
Lawrence. Deryl was featured on Prime Time Country this past Friday
(November 15), along with Paul Brandt. He will be performing in Vegas the
same time as Martina, but I don't know the venue. Something connected with
National Finals Rodeo. His fan club address is:

PO Box 90968
Nashville TN 37209

Also, if no one has heard it yet, Martina recorded a song on "Amazing Grace:
A country tribute to gospel", issued by Sparrow Records. M sang "How Great
Thou Art". Absolutely fabulous...

She also sang a song on an album by Jim Brickman, an adult comtemporary
artist on Wyndham Hill records. The name of the song is "Valentine". Album
to be released January '97.

Next single off Wild Angels is "Cry on the Shoulder of the Road"--be on the
lookout for the video.

Anyway, that's all the news for now (that I know of!)

See ya!
Liz

>>--> Thanks for the info, Liz! I do have one quick comment on the Crazy Horse
disc. The disc I have is a radio promo from the Global Satelite Network who was
the company that produced the show for radio airplay. It came complete with the
cue sheets and info that was sent with the disc to the radio stations. This was
the "legit" copy. I later ran across a bootleg that was taken from the same
show. I would only assume that the bootleg didn't include the full commercials
that were on the radio show for air. Radio shows are not supposed to make it
into the hands of collectors, but it happens everytime. I would not call these
discs "bootlegs" because they were produced legally for radio play. Now, the
copies of these made and sold for profit are bootlegs, pure and simple.
For those of you who want to see a small photo of the Crazy Horse disc
check it out in the Discography. I was lucky enough to have Martina autograph
my copy, and I ended up giving her a second copy I came across since she said
that she had never seen it before.
I bought my copy of the disc through an ad in Goldmine magazine from a
reputable dealer of radio shows. I guess there is a grey area here, but that's
for everyone to decide for themselves. I would much rather spend money on a
radio show that was professionally recorded for air than to trust someone who
brought a tape recorder in their pocket.
Liz, perhaps you can confirm all of this, but I am pretty certain that
all of this is true, and that the original radio show discs are in fact what
they
say they are. I've never ran into a bootlegger who added commercials! :)
Another question Liz, would be how does Martina feel about her fans
trading tapes of concert performances? I really have not run into anything
besides the Crazy Horse disc, the Acoustic Country disc I just received (thanks
Tom Dunn!) and one Country Concerts disc (also see the discography) that I've
had. Just courious!
