Martina McBride Internet Digest for Sunday, January 19, 1997
==============================================================
Hello, and Happy New Year to everyone! The MMID is back after a brief
holiday break. There is not a whole lot of new Martina info, except that
you should be able to catch the new video for Cry on the Shoulder of the
Road on TNN and CMT. I caught the end of it the other day, and really liked
what I saw. Then again, I've pretty much liked everything that Martina has
released!
I've gotten nothing but good responses to the From the Vaults RealAudio
program so I will be continuing the series. If anyone has any ideas for
what you would like to hear on upcoming programs, let me know by e-mail at:
[email protected] If you haven't gotten to hear the first
"Vaults" you can get it by following the "From the Vaults" link off of the
home page.
We're having a BANNER CONTEST! I've been giving the Internet Link Exchange
a trial run, and it seems like we are picking up some people through it. I
am looking for people to design a banner for the Martina McBride Home Page
that we could use to advertise on the ILE or other places. The banner must
be 400 x 40 pixels and less than 8k total to be used on ILE. If you come up
with a good banner that doesn't fit these requirements, send them anyways
for future use elsewhere! Send them via e-mail to [email protected]
If you would like to put a banner ad for the Home Page on your web site, you
can find our banner on the main page (http://martina-mcbride.com).
As always, any comments or input on the home page, the MMID or anything else
in general is appreciated, and you can e-mail me at: [email protected]
Now, on to the submissions!

Hello, all:
I would like to second Darren's statement that Liz runs the greatest fan
club around. We belong to 8 fan clubs, and Martina's is far and away the
best. And Liz is a great lady that we always look forward to seeing again.
Another interesting point-is anyone else out there going to FanFair in June?
There is probably still time to get a tour package. Just curious.
After a year of looking for the 'Mother and Child' CD, and having no luck,
Liz made a suggestion that ended with my getting the CD for
Christmas-Martina opens the CD with 'Oh Holy Night', and you never want it
to end. Suzy Bogguss also has a really great song that she wrote, but the
rest of it leaves me cold. So the player plays 1,3,1,3....
I also got my wife the 'Amazing Grace' CD, and Martina does 'How Great Thou
Art', and that one song is more than worth the price of the package.
These 2 songs, IMHO, really bring out that incredible power in Martina's
voice, which I've never felt her recordings do justice to. I'm one happy
puppy these days.
Also really pleased with Martina's 1997 dates so far-3 shows within reach
already, except that 2 of them are 1 day and a little over 700 miles apart.
This might stretch Kathy's tolerance of me a little thin.
Sorry to run on. Everyone have a safe New Year's Eve, for starters.
Foster

Darren
I see that the digest is on its New Year's diet and slimmed down. Ha! Ha!
I don't know about you and other readers but I haven't heard "Cry..." on the
radio yet! I have request it and my requests go unfulfilled. I'm pretty
upset about this. I thought the record label was really going to push it?
It looks like we have to bug the radio stations and pick up the slack from
the label.
Just wanted to drop a line and say I missed the digest this week and help
give you something to put in it.
Jimmy
REQUEST "CRY ON THE SHOULDER OF THE ROAD" VIA TELEPHONE AND E-MAIL!!
(I haven't heard cry either. Makes me wonder if the single has actually
been released or not. Hmm, the digest is on a diet? I should be
too! :)
Thanks for writing! -Darren)

Subject: An endearing Martina McBride Story
The second time I saw Martina McBride live was when she opened the show for
Brooks and Dunn at the Oakdale Theatre in Wallingford CT in September 1994.
Her 2nd album was a big hit and the crowd was anticipating a great show from
both acts. Martina came out and no one was disappointed. She seemed really
surprised to be performing on a round stage which slowly revolved ( back then
the Oakdale was a theatre in the round). She did a great show and received
2 standing ovations (for Crazy and Independence Day), so I hoped she would
get an encore (which is pretty unusual for opening acts at the Oakdale). I
had told my brother during the show that if she didn't sing Strangers (which
had blown us away the previous year when she opened for Garth Brooks in New
Haven) that if she got an encore I would yell for her to sing Strangers.
Well she did and as she hit the stage and the crowd was settling down I
yelled at the top of my voice: MARTINA, MARTINA STRANGERS
STRANGERS...needless to say everyone thought I was nuts. But I continued on
...MARTINA SING STRANGERS, STRANGERS. Finally she shaded her eyes and said "
What is that you're yelling?" It was still as a pin as I screamed STRANGERS
DO STRANGERS!! She smiled a big smile , kind of laughed nervously, looked at
her band and said:"Well I guess we still know that one". She conferred with
her band for a second and said: "This is the first time in my carrer that
anyone has ever requested one of my songs during the encore...Thank you for
making this evening so memorable." She then went on to thank the whole for
being a wonderful audience. And she blew us all away with the powerful voice
and incredible range she displays singing Strangers. Afterword many people
thanked me for getting her to sing that fantastic song. I know she sold some
CD's the next day!!!!!!
