Martina McBride Internet Digest for Sunday, December 8, 1996
----------------------------------------------------------------
Hello everyone,
Get your dialing fingers ready! Martina's new single, "Cry on the Shoulder
of the Road" is set for release tommorrow!! Call your local radio stations
and ask them to play the song! Believe it or not, request to radio make a
big difference when it comes to where the song makes it to on the charts!
So, please call at least once tommorrow!
As for other upcoming releases, Martina has recorded a song called
"Valentine" that will be on an album by Wyndham Hill artist named Jim
Brickman. The album entitled "Picture This" will be released in January
of 1997. You should be able to find the disc in the new age section of your
local record shop.
Martina has been working on her next album, which is scheduled for an early
summer release next year. Martina will be working with Paul Worley, and she
says that she has found some great songs for the disc. I can't wait!!
I've made some additions/improvements to the home page, so please check it
out when you get a chance! I have given the Martina News it's own page, and
I would love to get some submissions from you! I want to make this a Martina
fanzine that is for fans by fans! Any help you can lend is always appreciated.
I have also put up a page that serves to introduce myself to everyone. You can
find it listed as "Who Am I?" in the menu on the home page.
The tape tree is still being put together, if you want a copy of Martina's
Radio Shows, please e-mail [email protected] with either "LEAF"
if you want a tape but can't make copies for anyone else, and with "BRANCH" if
you can dub off copies for fellow fans. Thanks!
And, lastly, the fan club has raised it's price by $3.00 per year. The yearly
subscription is now $15.00, but still well worth it! With the raise in postage
and printing costs, I always wondered how they got by on the $12.00 anyway. If
you have a Martina fan on your Christmas list, it is the best gift you can give!
Thanks,
Darren
On to the submissions...

I just wanted to let everyone know that in the Dec 3 issue of Country
Weekly there is on page 40 an article from the DJ Sez section on Martina it
is as follows:
"Austin James, afternoon drive personality at KKCV in Cedar Falls, Iowa
says Martina McBride's debut album is truly extraordinary." What do you
get when you mix one of this generation's most expressive voices, a
tremendously written song selection and a top-notch production team?
Martina McBride's debut album "The Time Has Come." This 1992 album
provides an impressive spectrum of moods. The hard driving title cut is
first rate, as is the traditional sounding "True Blue Fool." The album's
biggest moment is the chilling story told on "Cheap Whiskey" with
background vocals provided by Garth Brooks. The emotional roller coaster
continues with "When You Are Old," penned by the award-winning Gretchen
Peters. Martina's debut album set the stage for her albums that have
followed---and gives new meaning to the phrase, "starting off on the right
foot."
Thought everyone might be interested in what he had to say. Keep
requesting "Swinging Doors"...it had fallen to #75 and this week it is at
#66 as of 12-1-96. And lets make sure Martina does not go unheard in her
next single "Cry On The Shoulder Of The Road."
Your friend,
Rachel

Hi Everyone:
Just a note to say that I borrowed my sister's cassette of "Amazing Grace"
on the weekend. I had never heard it before and I must say my favorite on
the tape is Martina's rendition of "How Great Thou Art". She sure has one
powerful voice. Bye for now, I must get back to work.

Hello Martina Fanatics
It is sad that "Swingin' Doors" couldn't get past #38 on the charts. Here's
an explanation. There were other good singers with good songs fighting to
get to the top of the charts. Look at the charts for the week ending
11/9/96, Clint Black, "Like The Rain", Alan Jackson, "Little Bitty", and
others, but look at the ones that have reached the top, Tracy Lawrence,
"Stars Over Texas", Ty Herndon, "Living In A Moment", and others, they're
still on the charts and getting the airplay. Don't think I'm putting these
songs down, its just that "Swingin Doors" had some tough competition.
Here's a solution, re-release it when it has a better chance. That's what
Stephanie Bentley and George Ducas is doing. Their songs didn't start of
too good either so they're being re-released now. Right now I'm looking
forward to Dec. 9 for the release of "Cry On The Shoulder Of The Road".
I'm a novice songwriter and something like this scares me. I feel the
pressure of sitting down and writing great songs so that they might have a
chance to make it to the top. None of my songs are out there for singers
yet, but I hope I can get them out soon.
Thanks Darren and Liz for giving us a list of Martina's future television
appearances. We'll take all the Martina we can take. I never get tired of
watching Martina or listening to her music.
Here's a top ten list for you
TOP TEN REACTIONS WHEN A FAN MEETS MARTINA
10. OBSESSIVE: Must have autograph and picture with Martina.
9. DULL AND UNINTERESTED: Another star, another autograph, ho-hum.
8. TOO SOCIABLE: Talks to Martina about absurd things like their
rhumatism flaring up.
7. FAINTING: Shakes Martina's hand, falls to the floor. They're lucky
they made it that far.
6. EXCITED: Screams, shakes Martina's hand and runs off without an
autograph, major
adrenaline rush.
5. THE TERRI CLARK: A hug combined with a leg wrapped around (see 1996
TNN awards for
reference).
4. BASHFUL: Has to be pushed to Martina, no eye contact, only remembers
Martina's shoes.
3. PERFECT: Not starstruck, or too sociable, remembers everything
they're going to say to Martina. (Yeah right! We could
only wish to be.)
2. STARSTRUCK: Can't believe they are right next to Martina and forgets
half of what they were going to say to her.
1. SPEECHLESS: 'Nuff said.
This is something I came up with. I have not witnessed all of these
reactions, we probably fall into numbers 1, 2, 4, 6, and 7. Martina has
probably seen most of these reactions and then some. I fall into number 2
except that I forgot to give her a letter. I was halfway to my truck before
I realized it. I went back and waited until she saw everyone and presented
it to her. I almost feel ashamed for getting to talk with Martina twice in
the same night but that should make up for my missed opportunity a month
earlier.
I figured the MMID is searching for some submissions since Martina's tour is
winding down so I thought I'd talk about some things that I've been waiting
to say along with other things.
What's the status of Martina's new album, how many songs are recorded so
far? any possible dates for the first release? the album? too early to
tell? Its nice to have an inside connection with Liz Beavers on-line.
One last thing, Darren, since Martina will be coming off her tour for the
year, do you think it would be possible to set up a date where she could
talk with us on your web site chat? Just wondering.
That's all for now, until next time,
Jimmy
(Hi Jimmy! We have talked about an on-line chat and hope to make
it a reality. When, I don't know right now. Liz would be the one
to answer that! I liked the top ten list! I myself always fall
into Starstruck! Oh well! And, everyone will soon be able to
put a face with Jimmy's name, watch for a great picture of him and
Martina soon!! Thanks for the photo's Jimmy! - Darren)

Hi Everybody,
My name is Alfonso Mendoza, and I am from Carbondale, Illnois. I
attend Southern Illinois University and I'm majoring in Journalisn. I
wanted to say that the Martina Mcbride home page is the best one that I have
ever seen. I like to let the web crew know that they are doing a fine job
on the MMHP. It is truely wonderful to read what many Martina have to say
about this awesome, country singer. Martina is my favorite performer of all
time because she has a voice that captures the attention of many people. I
see Martina as a sweet, wonderful person and wish her, John, and Delaney
great success in the future. I also have other favorite artists such as:
Collin Raye, Lonestar, and Pink Floyd just to name a few. Hey, I have one
question to ask and that is why don't you have any of Martina's tabulatures
on her home page? The reason why I ask this is because I play lead guitar
in a local band and we were thinking about playing some of her material in
our sessions. Well, Keep calling those stations and request Martina's new
single, I did!
Al Mendoza

and, we don't want to overstate this but...
REQUEST "CRY ON THE SHOULDER OF THE ROAD!!!" Thanks!
Call your local radio stations and request Swingin' Doors!
