Martina McBride Internet Digest for Sunday, December 22, 1996
-------------------------------------------------------------------
Hello and Happy Holidays to everyone!! Welcome to yet another MMID issue.
I would like to take this opportunity to say hello to our new readers, and
to say thank you to everyone for supporting the digest and web page!
The MMID is now 312 members strong, and growing! Let your fellow Martina
fans know where to find us!
There is not any new Martina info for this digest, although if you
haven't done so yet, check out when Martina will be on television by
going to http://martina-mcbride.com/mmontv.htm
And, you can get the news (or submit some) at:
http://martina-mcbride.com/mmnews.htm
We have officially gone over the 1 year mark, at least since the
counter was installed, which was a week or two into the page, if I
remember correctly! It's been a quick year! At the current rate
of hits, we should get about 50,000 hits next year!
If anyone would like to contribute to the web site, please let me
know! If you have any ideas, or suggestions, I am always open for
new and/or improved ways to run the page!
I have recently picked up a program called Powwow. It is a neat little
chat program that I think everyone should try. I run it in the background
while on-line, and it allows people to page you for a chat session, which
can either be one-on-one or a group. A link to the powwow page can be
found on the main page http://martina-mcbride.com
And, since Ameritech now charges by the call, not length of call, I have
another phone line with the computer on quite a bit, so page me! Thanks!!
Now on to the submissions:

HI Y'all,
Back in the Seventies, while I was in the Navy, I swore that it
would be at least twenty years before there was another female vocalist
who could match Linda Ronstadt, or even come close. Well, I missed it
by a couple of years, but, oh, well!
Hey, Martina, if you're reading this, I want you to know that I
believe the reason for your success is that you sing from the bottom of
your heart, while lacking any ulterior motives. I am sure of this. I
also believe that your major influence in music has been Linda Ronstadt,
ever since you were VERY young. Every musician is inspired by a
predecessor. That's OK!
All fans out there who think that Martina McBride is a rising star
definitely shares my opinion. I haven't had a chance to here her
Christmas songs yet :-(
We disabled veterans get limited income; maybe next month I'll run to
the record store and see what I can find. Meanwhile, everyone Enjoy! If
she is not one of the best female country vocalist of the nineties, I
will eat my speaker cones, right on camera on the David Letterman Show.
I most wholeheartedly agree with Darren;
We need to bug the DJ's across the country: Swingin' Doors, Walk That
Line, Cry on The Shoulder Of The Road, Where I Used To Have a Heart;
Anyone reading this, request these ... Please!
4UC, fan participation, or the lack thereof, has a major impact on
one's success in the entertainment industry. It would be selfish to take
for granted one's success, as long as he/she was there for you to enjoy.
If you are reading this message, then you are obviously one of
Martinas fans, so please support her. Get underneath her and lift her
up with the kind of support that only true fans can offer.
Anybody can attend a concert, or toss a dollar into a pot, fan or
not.
(Well said, John! I know that Linda Ronstadt was an influence
on Martina, as she does a cover song or two of Ms. Ronstadt's
in the concert's I have been to. I think you are pretty safe,
I don't believe you will have to eat your speaker cones!
Although, I would do it to get onto Letterman! :) -Darren)

Darren
Great job on the digest and web page! I'm glad that someone puts so much
work into this stuff. I'm a big Martina fan. She's my fav country
singer. I also like Metallica, G'N'R, Journey, Boston, Chicago, Alanis,
Collective Soul, Skynard, and various other country artists. As you can
see, I like a diverse selection of music.
About the radio show recordings, how's that going? I will be off
school from Dec 20 to Jan 13. So if you send out a final sign up list
between those dates, please don't forget that I want a tape!
Martina,
I saw the Alabama Christmas Special.WOW!!! How'ed you know that
O Holy Night was my favorite Christmas song ever? I think you sang it
much better than those three tennor guys;) No, really, I loved it. The
accapalla (or however you spell it) sounded GREAT. I've seen you in
person once (I was five feet away, and didn't get to talk to you:( ), and
you are pretty small, not that there's anything wrong with that. But
that voice that came out in O Holy Night, I really don't see how you do
it. You have a wonderful gift that you share with others, and that's
great. All for now.
Mike Gurley
P.S. Can't wait for the next LP
P.P.S Did I mention that you sing my favorite Christmas song better that
anyone else?
Love ya
(Hi Michael, Martina's "O Holy Night" is a great song! The tape tree
will be done in early January to give myself, and everyone who has
asked to be involved enough time, the holidays are a bad time to try
to do too much at once. Thanks! -Darren)

Hi everyone! I just signed up for this digest a little while ago so I
am just now writing. I am really excited to know that there are
things out there like Martina's web site and this digest! I am a huge
fan of Martina's, her being my favorite singer and all, and I would
just like to thank the people who are responsible for these things!
Now, I must pout :( I have been a huge Martina fan for quite a while,
but i have never had the chance, and am dying to, see her in concert!
But she didn't come through Portland, OR this time and I must say I
am very, very, VERY disappointed. Many, many people I know are also
disappointed. We know that Martina would be great to see in concert,
and we would really love to see her here!!! I heard she came through
here a couple years ago??? but I didn't get to see her. At any rate,
I am really hoping Martina will grace us with her presence next time
around! So, Martina, if you are reading this, WE'RE WAITING TO SEE
YOU HERE IN PORTLAND!!!!!

Holiday Greetings to All
I just wanted to take the time to wish you all Happy Holidays.
I also wanted to say that I envy those of you that went to Martina's
concerts recently. You got to hear some songs that Martina usually doesn't
perform any other time of the year. I can only hear some of the songs on
CD. I'm sure that there are others that share in my envy. Maybe someday in
the future, my envy will be satisfied. By the way, will Martina be making a
Chistmas album? Will she sing a song for a collection of Christmas tunes
again like she did for Mother & Child? How is her new album coming along?
I guess she'll have some time to work on it now. When is the tenative
release date? I can hardly wait.
Once again, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
Jimmy
