Martina finally took home the CMA's Female Vocalist of the Year honor on Wednesday night!  She said that she was happy for her husband John, who she said always seemed to want to see her win the award even more than she had!

Congratulations Martina on an award that many people think was at least one year late!

Britney's a Big Martina Fan

RCA Press Release - 01/18/01

American Music Awards co-host Britney Spears made a beeline for RCA recording artist Martina McBride during rehearsals last week to tell her what a big fan she is of Martina's. Britney's people quickly agreed saying Britney plays Martina's CD's on the bus "all the time." The person most excited about all of this was Martina's six-year-old daughter Delaney, who was finally able to meet Britney. After Martina introduced them, Britney knelt down and told Delaney she loved her curly hair. A speechless Delaney just nodded.

A Martina & Faith Duet?

A hot topic lately has been the possibility of Martina's recording a duet with her good friend, Faith Hill. Martina says it could happen, but the story has been blown out of proportion.

"I would love to do that," Martina said. "Actually, I've got a song that I heard the other day that would be perfect for us. We've talked about it. It might happen sometime in the future, but no concrete plans. It would be a lot of fun. I would love to do that."

Mama, I don't want to hurt your feelings, but...

Martina doesn't have much of a chance to develop a big ego with Delaney and Emma around. She explained recently:

"First of all, driving down the street today, Emma is in the back, of course, and she says--I start singing a song--and she screams at the top of [her lungs], 'NO! NO Mama! NO!'  I said, 'What, you don't want me to sing?' 'NO!'  She doesn't want me to sing.

"Okay, then Delaney tells me yesterday, she said, 'You know mama [laughter] I don't want to hurt your feelings by telling you this but you--you really don't sing other people's--you sing your songs good but your really don't sing anything else very good.' [Laughter] 'Cause I was coloring with her at the kitchen table and I was singing her some song and she said, 'You don't sing very good. I mean you sing your songs good, but you don't sing other songs very good.' I was like thanks, thanks. Thanks for the honesty."

Christmas For Kids Project

Martina headlined the Christmas For Kids benefit concert at the Opry House in Nashville on Monday, November 13, at 7:00pm CT. Also on the bill were Shane Minor, Trace Adkins and Chalee Tennison.

The concert is a fundraiser for the Christmas For Kids project, which was started in 1981 by the Professional Drivers For Entertainers--the folks who drive the tour buses. The purpose is to provide a memorable Christmas for underprivileged kids who otherwise wouldn't have much to celebrate. Entertainers and bus companies volunteer the use of their tour buses for transportation of the children.

The event took place this year on December 11th and 12th. On the first day, the public is invited to come out to the Hendersonville K-Mart from 1:00pm to 9:00pm and, for a $2 donation, tour the 50-60 buses that participate. Artists are invited to come out after 5:00pm to sign autographs. If you've ever wanted to get a look inside the buses of your favorite country artists, here's your chance. Merchandise donated by the artists is also on sale.

On the second day, the 300 children are picked up at their schools by an entertainer's bus. First, they're taken to lunch, a visit with Santa, and other entertainment. Then, it's a bus trip to the Hendersonville K-Mart for some Christmas shopping. The children, each accompanied by a chaperone, are given $150 each to buy whatever their hearts desire. The children also receive merchandise items donated by the artists.

Christmas For Kids is funded by proceeds from the concert and private donations.

Martina the Predator

When the Nashville Predators NHL hockey team began selling season tickets, they enlisted the aid of several Nashville celebrities--Martina, Garth, Lorrie Morgan, Vince Gill and Amy Grant--for a series of billboard ads that were placed around town. The "Got Tickets?" concept was a spoof of the "Got Milk?" campaign. We know you'll get a kick out of  Martina's billboard. Click here.

Martina at the Grammy's

Shania's "Man, I Feel Like a Woman" won the Grammy for Best Female Country Vocal Performance, which was the category in which Martina was nominated for "I Love You." Congratulations to Shania and all involved in the project.

John and Delaney didn't accompany Martina to the Awards ceremony as planned; they stayed home to take care of Emma, who wasn't feeling well.

They did keep a Grammy in the family--sort of. Martina was one of the presenters for the Best Country Album category, which was won by the Dixie Chicks for their album Fly. The album was produced by Paul Worley, who is Martina's co-producer. Paul played guitar for the Chick's band and accompanied them onstage to accept the award.

Delaney attended the Grammy ceremonies last year, and the group Aerosmith apparently made quite an impression on her. When the group finished their performance, Delaney turned to her mother and announced that she wants to be a rock singer!  We haven't heard recently whether she's still on that career track.

Martina Teams with Bob Seger!

watchtitle.jpg (9390 bytes)
Taken from the Official Hope Floats site at Capitol Records:

"Somebody asked me, 'Do you know when you write a hit?' And you don't very often, but I actually wrote it for my wife," says Seger. "And it was a blatant love song, I thought I'd wait for the right movie to come along before putting it on my own album. Then they brought up the possibility of doing it with Martina McBride and I said, 'that sounds great...I love her records.'"

A friend of Seger's, producer Don Was, convinced him that Hope Floats was the right film and suggested that Seger partner with Martina McBride for his first-ever duet.

"It was really exciting to me, not only to sing a song in a movie, but to sing it with Bob Seger," enthuses McBride. "I've grown up listening to him." ("Chances Are" marks McBride's first contribution to a major motion picture soundtrack.)

Capitol Records - which has been Seger's label for the past 30 years -- will service "Chances Are" to AC, AAA and Rock radio formats on May 5, then later take it to the Pop format. After recording the song in Nashville together, Seger and McBride recently joined up in Los Angeles to shoot the video with director Nancy Bennett (Tori Amos, Victoria Williams).
