MARTINA MAKES SPECIAL VISIT TO HAVEN HOUSE Posted on Tuesday, March 21, 2006
RCA recording superstar, Martina McBride, recently honored Child & Family Services Haven House with a visit before her February 24 concert at the HSBC Arena in Buffalo, New York. The director of the facility, Katey Joyce, sent a letter to Martina in 2004 during the construction phase of the shelter and continued to keep her apprised of their progress. When Martinašs Timeless Tour brought her to Buffalo, the perfect opportunity presented itself for her to see the finished facility and spend the afternoon with shelter residents and staff. Martina enjoyed a private tour of the new domestic violence shelter by a special 5 year old resident.
Martina presented the shelter with a commemorative keepsake which included her photo and lyrics to songs such as "Concrete Angel," "Broken Wing," and of course the anthem for domestic abuse survivors, "Independence Day." Katey Joyce said, "I was thrilled to let Martina know that
her songs are my personal anthem for the work I do. The impact she had on our residents was truly breathtaking. Our time with her can only be described as perfect and inspiring!"
