McBride also found herself the recipient of her third Top Female Vocalist honor from the Academy of Country Music as well as their Home Depot Humanitarian of the Year award. She was also recognized with a Grammy nomination.
Martina debuted at number-one marking the highest scanning debut of her career. Kansas City Mo. (Feb. 8, 2005) – Martina McBride’s My Heart, a collection of eight love songs hand-picked by Martina exclusively for Hallmark Gold Crown stores this Valentine season, reached gold in just one week following its official release on January 24, 2005.
My Heart includes signature love songs from Martina’s repertoire including “Valentine,” “All The Things We’ve Never Done,” “Born To Give My Love To You” and “In My Daughter’s Eyes,” as well as the Etta James classic “At Last” and Buck Owens’s “Together Again” which were recorded especially for the project. The album represents Hallmark’s first-ever Valentine’s CD featuring newly arranged and performed music.
My Heart released on the heels of another extremely successful Hallmark recording – James Taylor: A Christmas Album which was certified Platinum just 44 days after its release. Hallmark has offered music for holidays and occasions for nearly 20 years and the Hallmark name is synonymous with quality entertainment and production.
Regularly priced at $10.95, or $6.95 with the purchase of any three Hallmark cards, My Heart is available at participating Hallmark Gold Crown stores in the U.S. and Canada. It is available on Hallmark.com for $10.95. It remains in stores through February 14. Consumers can visit Hallmark.com, or call 1-800-HALLMARK, to find the nearest Gold Crown® store in their area.
“We are thrilled to present such a wonderful collection of music from such an accomplished artist,” said Ann Herrick, integrated marketing manager at Hallmark. “We were certain Martina was a perfect fit for this Valentine project and we knew our consumers would be appreciative of the special offering. Still, we are overwhelmed by its success. It has gone well beyond our expectations in such a short time period. It really speaks of Martina’s level of artistry and fan appeal.”
Throughout Martina McBride’s notable career, she has sold over 14 million albums, had 20 top 10 hits and garnered more than 70 awards and nominations. She is both the reigning CMA Female Vocalist of the Year (three consecutive years) and the ACM’s Top Female Vocalist (two consecutive years). |
Martina Goes Back To College.. Well, Almost! Posted on Thursday, January 13, 2005
Country music superstar Martina McBride has recently found herself back in the classroom. Not as a student or even as a teacher but rather as the course subject matter. Young women at Salem College in Winston-Salem, NC, have been given a special opportunity to sign up for a class entitled "Happy Girl/Broken Wing: Martina McBride as Text."
The class, being taught by English professor Dr. Ron DePeter, will study McBride's performances, both on albums and in videos, focusing primarily on her Greatest Hits and Martina albums.
"By analyzing her songs and videos, I hope to enable students to gain a deeper appreciation of how McBride uses her voice to convey a woman's experience artfully and in its entire dimension, from heartbreak to gratitude, from personal fulfillment to social and political commitment," Dr. DePeter says of the course.
Another point of interest in the class will be McBride's powerful interpretations of songs written by others. "Even though McBride is not the author of her songs, she brings her own unique voice and worldview to each performance," Dr. DePeter says of his choice of McBride as the subject for his class. "Through their study of McBride's work, students will enrich their understanding of how they can use their own voices for both self-expression and community involvement."
"Happy Girl/Broken Wing" will be a month-long class running from January 3 through January 28. The class meets for 3 hours, four times a week. Course work will include "reading" Martina McBride material, completing a sequence of writing assignments and a final essay project. Though nothing has yet been confirmed, McBride may participate in the course, possibly by an online discussion board where students can post questions to which she responds.
Salem College is a private, liberal arts college for women located in Winston-Salem, NC. It is the second oldest women's college in the United States.
Martina McBride recently added her 4th CMA Top Female Vocalist Award to her growing list of industry recognitions. She has sold over 13 million albums and has had twenty Top Ten hits. Her latest album, Martina, has been certified double platinum and her current single, "God's Will," is steadily climbing the charts. On January 24th, her “My Heart” CD will be available only in Hallmark Gold Crown® stores through Feb. 14. The album, highlighted by two original tracks “At Last” and “Together Again,” regularly priced at $10.95, will be sold for $6.95 with the purchase of any three Hallmark cards. Consumers can visit Hallmark.com, or call 1-800-HALLMARK, to find the nearest Gold Crown® store in their area. |
Martina & Catherine Britt To Help CRB Honor Dolly Parton Posted on Tuesday, January 11, 2005
NASHVILLE, TN. -- In 1998, Country Radio Broadcasters, Inc. established the CRB Career Achievement Award to honor artists who have been major influences on the growth of Country radio. This recognition goes beyond the creation of hit records, although obviously an achievement in itself. The award is presented to deserving artists to recognize their contributions that have specifically affected Country radio's success.
This year, CRB is proud to present the CRB Career Achievement Award to legendary Country music pioneer Dolly Parton, featuring a special performance by Country stars Martina McBride and Catherine Britt. After spending many years at RCA, it is a fitting homage for Dolly that two of RCA's current successful artists honor her with a musical tribute. Dolly now records for Sugar Hill Records.
The award will be given at the Country Music DJ and Radio Hall of Fame Dinner and Awards Ceremony, Tuesday, March 1, 2005.
