“Empowering and inspiring. It’s anthemic. It’s rocking. And it sounds exactly like a Number One record should.” – Robert K. Oermann / Music Row Magazine

Nashville, TN (June 12, 2003) – Martina McBride has always been a champion of the female spirit in both her personal life and her musical career. Throughout her long string of hits, Martina has brought attention to the plight of the downtrodden and abused as well as the unique strengths and wisdom that can be found in everyday women. Now, Martina is returning to the airwaves with her brand new single, “This One’s For The Girls.” The infectious anthem that celebrates “girls” from “1 to 99” can be found on Martina’s new studio album slated to hit stores on September 23.

New music from a top female country artist is always eagerly awaited but on the heels of her multiple award wins and double platinum Greatest Hits disc, radio stations across the country fervently added the track well before the scheduled date. Everyone wanted to hear music from the reigning CMA Female Vocalist of the Year who happens to have back to back Academy of Country Music wins for Top Female Vocalist along with recent American Music Award and Billboard Award wins. Fans and critics alike agree. She is also this year’s Country Weekly Favorite Female Artist, a completely fan voted award.

“This One’s For The Girls” was written by the husband and wife duo of Aimee Mayo and Chris Lindsey, and frequent collaborator Hillary Lindsey. The song features an all-star chorus of Martina gal-pals Faith Hill, Carolyn Dawn Johnson, McBride’s daughters Emma and Delaney, Mayo, and Hillary Lindsey.

“This One’s For The Girls” debuts this week at #45 on the R&R chart and #49 on Billboard.

MARTINA MCBRIDE’S “CONCRETE ANGEL” STIRS A NATION

Song inspires letters to ChildHelp USA And To Martina
Music Video Honored at the CMT Flameworthy Awards

Nashville, TN (April 14) -- Martina McBride’s current single, “Concrete Angel” which tells the story of a young girl being mistreated at the hands of her mother, has inspired a multitude of letters from radio listeners and video viewers who are finding refuge in the song. From those who had their own personal experience with child abuse or witnessed it in their families or neighborhoods to child welfare professionals thanking Martina for her bravery and for expressing the message so eloquently, the response has been overwhelming. The haunting video recently earned Martina a CMT Flameworthy Female Video of the Year honor and the directors, Deaton/ Flanigan picked up a trophy for Video Director of the Year.

Child welfare professionals have lauded the song and video for “bringing national attention to a subject that too often causes people to look the other way” and others are requesting the video to show at conference meetings because, “The viewing of this powerful visual message will mean so much to our social workers who have dedicated their lives to protecting and nurturing children who are victims of abuse and neglect” and “I have spent the past 12 years fighting child abuse and domestic violence… I am writing this for Martina. I would like her permission to use her video, "Concrete Angel" during my presentations on child abuse.”

Another child care professional wrote, “This song says in each word what we see far too many times each year. We are called on (to help) so many children that have been abused and/or beaten by parents, siblings, other family members, and many other people they know. When I first heard this song, it reminded me specifically of a flight we had. This patient was almost identical to the girl in the video and went through the same things, and tragically, at the young age of 7, passed away three days after we transported her because her small body could not recover from the horrific trauma it had gone through. Throughout the music video on CMT, I not only cried, but sobbed.” Another relayed, “I saw her video the other day on VH1 Country and I could not stop crying. It brought to light the real truth of the terrible abuse children suffer, and I hope more people cry and get angry about the terrible things that happen to children. Even though I work with this on a daily basis I was strongly moved and her video touched my heart.”

Just about everyone seems to relate to the song’s hard-hitting message of the horrors of abuse. “I recently viewed the Martina McBride video "Concrete Angel" on CMT programming and was totally moved by it. Thank you for bringing national attention to a subject that too often causes people to look the other way.” Another writer told, “Hi my name is Desiree and I am 10 years old. I really like your music especially Concrete Angel and it really touched my heart to help children all over the world.”

Even the victims of abuse are revealing their stories. “I was one of those children that no one bothered with,” wrote one person, “My teachers never asked about the bruises and our neighbors never came to see why a child was screaming, and none of my older relatives ever tried to intervene... Keep up the good work...if you can even help one child - it is all worth it!” Another told, “Just wanted to tell you that the song Concrete Angle is a very moving song and the first time I heard it I cried like a baby. The reason for that is because I was an abused child for many years and have just recently found out what all went on in my home.”

“Concrete Angel” is currently at the #5 spot on both the Billboard and R&R charts and the video is consistently one of the most requested each week.

Maya Angelou’s Fantasy Family Includes Martina McBride
Posted on Monday, February 10 2003

February 10, 2003 – Grammy nominee, Martina McBride gets a lot of fan mail. Many say they relate to her music and that they feel like she’s a part of their family. Recently, famed American author and Pulitzer Prize winning poet, Maya Angelou told the nation she felt the same way.

On the Oprah Winfrey Show on January 30th, Oprah’s guests were Billy Crystal and Maya Angelou. They were on the show to talk about a new exhibit at Los Angeles’ Museum of Tolerance called “Finding Our Families, Finding Ourselves” which features family stories from Angelou, Crystal, Carlos Santana and Yankees manager Joe Torre. The exhibit is designed to help people understand the value of uncovering one’s own unique family history thus finding a connection between the past and who we are today.

As the threesome discussed their family histories, Oprah revealed that she is a distant relative of Elvis Presley’s. Upon hearing that, Maya Angelou offered, “If I was going to be related to a country western person, not rock ‘n’ roll, country western, I’d like it to be Martina McBride or Tim McGraw.”

“Maya Angelou has long been an inspiration to me and she makes me want to be a better person,” said Martina. “She sent flowers to my dressing room at a recent performance and I was just blown away that she was even aware that I existed! To have her say she'd like to be related to me is amazing. I kind of feel like I have her blessing, you know? I just hope I get to meet her someday.”

Martina McBride Changes Video To Help Children
Posted on Thursday, January 16 2003

Martina McBride's current video for "Concrete Angel" was recently changed to add a phone number for Childhelp USA. The video, about a small girl being abused by her parent, now features a telephone number for the Childhelp USA National Child Abuse Hotline. The help number was added after several video outlets received calls from viewers wanting to know how they could help children in such circumstances.

The tag reads, "If you need help or suspect abuse, call the Childhelp USA National Child Abuse Hotline 1-800-4-A- CHILD." The hotline provides a confidential, toll-free lifeline for children who are being abused and want assistance, frustrated parents who are about to lose control and are seeking help, adults and children requesting the local telephone number to report cases of abuse, adult survivors of child abuse who are feeling unsafe or suicidal, and parents requesting tips or recommended books on parenting.

The plight of the abused and underprivileged child has always been dear to the singer's heart. In fact, throughout the last decade McBride has devoted much of her time to helping raise awareness of this staggering problem. She has acted as national spokesperson for the National Network to End Domestic Violence and for Domestic Violence Intervention Services and her eight-year relationship with the YWCA of Middle Tennessee has, so far, helped them raise over $300,000 for their family programs and Domestic Violence Center. McBride most recently established a building fund for Safe Haven Family Shelter in Nashville to help them expand their facilities.

The reigning CMA and ACM Female Vocalist of the Year, Martina McBride is bringing the holiday spirit to her fans this winter as she embarks on the first year's run of Martina McBride's The Joy of Christmas, an evening of holiday entertainment for the whole family.

Martina McBride's The Joy of Christmas will be a multi-media theatrical event complete with dazzling sets, brilliant lights and impressive special effects all created especially for this one-of-a-kind stage show and starring one of music's most spectacular voices and dynamic entertainers.

"I was inspired by the Christmas productions put on at New York's Radio City Music Hall. We go every year and just love it," said Martina.

The ever changing film backdrops, state of the art digital projections and set designs are only a part of the large scale theatrical experience planned. Martina has also enrolled a troupe of ten actors who play multiple roles and reenact live action scenes from bustling city streets to Santa's workshop and even a live nativity scene. The two-hour program will also feature caroling with the children in the audience and of course, Martina McBride performing all the season's classic songs, many of which can be found on her gold-selling 1998 release "White Christmas."

"This show is something I've wanted to do for many years. Christmas is such a wonderful time and I wanted to create a memorable holiday experience for the entire family and something they can come see year after year. By developing a show that includes elements of theater, video, special effects and audience interaction, we'll be able to take the audience through every aspect of the Christmas season in a magical, inspiring way. I'm so excited about sharing it with everyone," exclaimed Martina.

Bud Schaetzle of SOS Multimedia is the executive producer, writer and director of the show. When asked how he felt about embarking on such an extensive endeavor for Martina, he replied, "If you're trying to put together a ground breaking show--a truly unique touring show that has never been done before--the one thing you must have is a total world-class talent at the center of it--someone who can anchor the show. Martina would be at the top of anyone's list. She's the best in the business. Truthfully, when it comes to pure vocal talent and the gift to interpret song, there's no better singer than Martina McBride."

To round out his team, Schaetzle enrolled the assistance of consultants from Broadway's top shows and the country's leading theme parks and hand picked a team of professionals to helm the production including; Composer Herman Beeftink, Production Designer Ramsey Avery, Lighting Designer/ Director Craig Pierce, Producers Susan Gold and Tom Ward, Art Director Terri McKenna, Sound Designer Michael Davis of Digital Audio Post and Wardrobe Director Franne Lee.
