Just found this story on yahoo music. Man, if cassettes go away, I don't know what I'll do!! I guess I'll have to buy all I can with the money I have!! I mean, I've started making cd's on the computer, but sure don't have a machine other than that. Whereas, I have bunches of stereo components and also portable cassette player/recorders!! Anybody else in my situation? I sure hope there are other producers of cassettes out there!! This is bad! IMHO, neway.

Why don't you just buy the CD's? Or get them off itunes?

I don't make mix cassette tapes anymore but I still use a VCR and will be sad when blank tapes go away.

Cassetes have been dead for years now. At least by me. Record stores havent sold them in years. I still have a bunch of them though along with my cassette player. Actually, it seems that records are easier to come by than cassettes.

I used to make tonnes of mix tapes. It would take me all day just to do one.
Once I got a Discman and got a CD player in my car. I stopped making tapes. I know do not even use my Discman as now I have my Ipod. I still use my VCR to tape Beverley on CMT. I use my HDPVR to record shows I want to watch that I am unable to. |

I used to make tapes from CDs before I got a car with a CD player in it. Now it's not needed. I burn a CD and go.
Technology moves on. It went the way of VHS tapes for video. |

Tapes will continue to be produced for awhile, but they will just not be available at the local stores, which tend to put profits ahead of good customer service. Shelf space is limited, so they pack the space with high demand, high profit items.
I'm sure online retailers will have them for the next 5 years at least. http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/Son...Tape?sku=241615 http://www.amazon.com/TDK-Normal-120-Casse...305&sr=8-11 Tapes are used in professional capacities whereas digital has taken over 'home' usage. Kinda odd, really. This post has been edited by Derek: May 8 2007, 11:32 PM |

Cassettes, like vinyl, will probably never completely go away, and in another or so, will probably see a nostalgic return just like vinyl seems to be doing. I still have several blank cassettes that I've bought in the last couple of years. I bought a brand new Sony stereo last year that also has a tape deck. (Sony still makes record players too.) I find myself still making the occasional mix tape just for fun. I grew up on cassettes, so they will never fully be gone from my life. I have an Ipod, but I also still have a portable CD player and a walkman.

I have all of Martina's albums on tape up until the "Martina" album. Mom finally got a car with a cd player so she gave me all the tapes for my boat, which only has a tape player. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) |

I have every Martina album on cassette. "Timeless" and "Waking Up Laughing" are only available on CD. When I was in Nashville in 2005, I bought both versions of "White Christmas" on cassette at the Ernest Tubb shop in downtown to complete my cassette collection.

I actually have an 8-track player that still works! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif) Too bad none of my 8-track tapes play anymore. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif) (I can hear all the Martinaville youngsters collectively asking "What's an 8-track tape?") Well, thank goodness for K-Mart and Wal-Mart. They haven't let me down; they still have quite a variety of brands of cassettes! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) The cassettes come in really handy for recording Martina on Country Countdown USA on Sunday morning when she's on. Anyway, I know the time will probably come when they might disappear. But I"ll have all these that I have. Plus, as someone said, they'll probably make a comeback like vinyl lp's have. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) Til then, viva la cassette!
btw, Pandora is playing 'That Wasn't Me', one of my most favorite Martina tunes!! AAAHHH!! |

Me too, have all of Martina's stuff on cassette too, except what they don't make anymore.
Got a working 8 track. I even have a working BETA vcr. With cd burners in most computers now, there's no reason to make home cassette recordings anymore though. |
