I know there are folks here that would like to know - many don't care (IMG:style_emoticons/default/blink.gif) but some of us are very interested in the camera's being used (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif) when pictures are submitted....would it be possible to say something in your initial post - Like a Canon D20, 70-200 or whatever....this may help others in knowing what to take and or what to buy.....thanks

I've often wondered that too.

Thanks.

Cordially,

I second that. I can't count how many PM's I've sent the posters to find out the type of camera and if it was SLR or digital or what F-stop, etc! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

OK - here is my photo data info. I was very fortunate to use a Nikon D80 with a Tamron 28-75 2.8 lens. Another concertgoer had a Nikon D50 with a Nikon 75-300 lens. I shot about half the show on ISO/ASA 3200 in "A" aperture mode. the shots done with the 75-300 during lens switches were done in Auto mode with the pop-up flash.

I am fully aware my list is NOT the typical setup for most people who take photos at a concert. However since at least three other people in my row and front row all got DSLR's into MPP, that says something as well.

The photo thing is very sketchy from venue to venue - some won't let you take a camera with an interchangeable lens.....what do you do at that point - you're at the place - and now you are in a pickle.......BUT this is the exact data I was interested in.....I've founf out that using a high quality zoom -say a 70-200 - with an f2.8 lens gives you the best results. NOW a lens like that will cost over $2000 OUCH. However where I live there is a Pro photo spply where you can rent the top stuff..for example the Canon 600mm lens rents for $80 BUT will cost over $7,000! Now they won't let you in with that lens - that's the ones they use at the Superbowl and World Cup.....

http://www.prophotosupply.com/p-rental.htm

you may have such a place where you live or nearby. THis is a great way for you to try a lens and see if it is worth buying or just renting for those ocassions.

I never use a flash at a concert - I don't want to detract from the performance and unless you have a zillion $$$ flash setup - it is like shoveling sand against the tide - futile.....I run the camera at ISO 3200 and on a sports action mode - and can shoot 5 frames per second. I usually have 650 shots per concert......with many very very good and these are for my own use - and for sharing with you folks-NOT for any sale at all....

Most people have a pocket size digital but remember flash only travels 20-30ft..go in menu and turn it off and in ISO adjustment crank it up..try as high as it can go 1600-3200iso depending upon max. The good thing about digital is you can test fire at the start of concert and adjust results. If using more pro SLR outfit with quality TRY (fast 2.8 lens get 800-1000 ISO film)1/250 or set ISO digitally to same with good results if shooting with shutter set at 1/200-1/250 to stop action and lens manually set at f 1:2.8 focusing directly on subject yet having background more out of focus giving attention to the subject (usually martina) only if close with common (80-200 2.8) zoom lens set at 200 if you can afford and zoom set at 80 to get more of a group shot. However if you can afford closer front row seating (28-70 2.8) lens would work well. Because of bright lights shinning on facual exposure using built in meter of wider area can be misleading. If digital best quality with less ISO in 800-1000 and 2.8.....if you use a F4 or f 5.6 cheaper lens set ISO as high as it goes -you will get more dept of focus field with higher aperature but may have to shoot slower that 1/250 sec. aperature. Again with digital you can test shoot until your setting is more ideal.

If shooting film take it to a quality photo finishing store other than Walmart etc. for best results...if digital try White Balance set on Auto and OR try Fluoresent setting and even bulb setting for different effects of same scene or what looks more ideal overall at venue.
