Have any of y'all heard about the "Leap Day Massacre" that happened today on sister stations Kicks 101.5 and Eagle 106.7? They fired the majority of their DJ's including: Kristen Gates from Caddy and Kristen in the morning, Jim Vann, Wylie Rose, Buck in the Truck, and most importantly, Rhubarb Jones.
Access Atlanta is saying that the only people staying on board on Kicks is literally Cadillac Jack and Bill Cellar. I love Caddy with all my heart, but I wish they would have dropped Bill instead of Wylie. That girl was awesome!! Or at least kept Jim Vann on board. He was voted the sexiest man on Atlanta radio, for goodness sakes! Personally, I find this COMPLETELY unacceptable. It's being said that Eagle is going to disappear soon and undergo a format change. Main talks at the moment is apparently Oldies (wouldn't mind that) or talk (bleh). I'm SERIOUSLY considering getting satellite radio now. Or maybe HD. After Peach/Lite FM (94.9) going down last year to The Bull (which, while country, I refuse to listen to because of the way they ruined my Christmas music), 99x being overturned last month to give Q100 more wattage, and now this, I hate Atlanta radio. It's just absolute bullcrap, imo. Here's the AccessAtlanta story, btw. |

Cadillac Jack.
Man, is he ever bouncing around the country. He was in DC in the 90s, and then he went to Philly. Now Atlanta. Where next? They did a similar shakeup here at WMZQ back in August. Fired a few very long-time on-air personalities (e.g. Jim LOndon who was here in the 70s and 80s) , and brought in new voices all around, including some guy named Michael J (I think he came from Florida) who does the 10-3 show for both WMZW in DC and WPOC in Baltimore--simultaneously. Now that's some serious cost-cutting. Cordially, Tom |

Sorry to hear about the changes you got HIT with in HOTLANTA.
Last month, when one of the only country stations that I can still hear old and new Martina songs on scared me when they got knocked off the air for over 6 hours. I was about give up completely on ever having a favorite country station or DJ again until they came back on the air. |

Thanks for the article. I don't listen to much country radio; so this is the first I heard of it. I did meet Rhubarb Jones twice, though, and he was as nice as they said. Once, I had an M&G with Trisha Yearwood, but they told us to go to the wrong place. So Rhubarb pulled out his cell phone and called her manager, who came out to guide us to the right location. I hope that he gets another gig soon.

Too bad y'all can't pick up Greenville stations. WSSL is actually one of the best stations I've heard (country wise).

WYAY in Atlanta is History:
After 24 years as a country outlet, Citadel's WYAY (the Eagle)/Atlanta will flip to "True Oldies, 106.7," immediately following Sunday's (March 9) Kobalt Tools 500 NASCAR race. According to a station press release, the new oldies outlet will be the only one of its kind in Atlanta and will feature the greatest hits of the ‘60s and ‘70s, from artists like the Beatles, the Beach Boys, and Motown titles from Steve Wonder, Marvin Gaye and others. True Oldies will continue to air NASCAR Sprint Cup racing on weekends; it was also announced that Dallas McCade, a long time WYAY air personality will segue to country clustermate WKHK, joining Cadillac Jack in mornings Commenting on the format flip in a statement, Mark Richards, operations manager and program director for True Oldies 106.7, "Radio listeners in the Atlanta area searching for their favorite hits from the past have been without a home for far too long and we’re very pleased to be filling that void." The morning slot will be going to Citadel's syndicated Don Imus show, airing from 6-9 a.m., bringing his affiliate total to 36 in just over 90 days since his launch. "We’re excited to be adding such a high profile morning host,” added Richards. “Imus will certainly raise our station profile in the market and bring new listeners to our morning drive slot. With the presidential campaign in full swing, this is a perfect time for us to bring Imus to our Atlanta audience.” |

Yea, I heard this last week. Kicks, IMO, just laid their own grave. They will lose a ton of listeners. I also heard though that Cadillac and Bill Sellar were fired too, thats what the paper said at least. Maybe they worked out some kind of deal.
I know I will be less inclined to listen to Kicks now after they fired the best DJ's in Atlanta. They had an outstanding line up of DJ's. |

I can't belive all of this. I agree 100% about Kicks, Meredith.
I do like Dallas, so I'm hoping this new job works out for her. As far as Eagle changing formats... I think that's a good thing. They always played horrible music. I think I'll actually listen to the station more now because I love oldies. |

Thanks for the articles, y'all! While I'm quite excited about an Oldies station (something we've been SEVERELY missing since Cool 105.3 or 7 or something switched to Spanish), and Dallas joining Caddy, I haven't really listened to Kicks in a week. I really miss my Wylie!
I hope the Oldies station picks up Randy and Spiff as morning DJ's. They've been missed ever since Peach got turned upside down. This post has been edited by Reluctant Daughter: Mar 7 2008, 07:05 PM |
