I don't know if schools are "safer now" than they've ever been or not. As past incidents have shown, stuff can obviously happen at schools where you would least expect it. Personally, I think the V Tech could have sent a campus-wide warning out quicker than they did until two hours later, just before the second shooting spree started.
Personally, I've always felt safe in school. I'm in college right now and while, like I said, stuff like this can obviously happen anywhere, I don't spend my days in constant fear of it. I just go about my day as I've always done, but remembering to to stay alert to my surroundings. As anybody should normally while on an open campus. |

i voted no because the world has changed and things just arent as safe as they used to be..
living in SD , years ago it would be nothing for kids to have guns in their pickups and cars to go hunting after school. Pheasant hunting is very popular in SD but now a days you can't do that. |

It will happen again and there's really not much people can do about it. Yeah they can take different precautions but there is nothing going to stop someone if they really want to. There is always a way around the precautions and the sercurity. I am in college now and I attend a very small school but I am always aware of my surroundings. That is really the main thing that people can do is just to be aware of their surroundings. People need to stop depending so much on other people to protect them. Yes, we need sercurity guards and such but people need to learn that they are responsible for their own actions and their surroundings. In other words, just be careful and know who you hang out with.

Schools themselves can only be judged by what they do in such instances. I have heard that around 9am, Virginia Tech told their students to "proceed to class with caution"...now really, was that not ridiculous? Had they cancelled classes, 30 people would not have been killed in that Engineering building.
Officials at America's colleges and high schools seem to care, and as long as they keep working towards safety, the country's students will be under the right hand. In the scheme of things though, you really cannot stop insanity; incidents like the VT shooting are not the fault of the institution, but rather the shooter. |

I keep Wondering if those door at the college could have been locked from the inside and have solid doors.. keep the student safes.. But What remember on the news is that one of the student put a table and a teacher desk in front of the door. if that the case why didn't they lock it...

I don't really get the question. Safer now as opposed to when?
When I was in high school we didn't really worry too much about people bringing guns to class. I never thought about it... and I had already graduated when Columbine happened. The first school shooting I remember was that deal in Arkansas back in like 98 or something. I can't remember the exact year. I felt safe in school... we had an on-campus "reasource officer" during school hours and I guess that made me feel safe. As for college, I never had any problems at Clemson. We had (and still have) a pretty safe campus. Didn't have many on-campus problems. |

No, I don't think they are any safer...sure schools have prevented this from happening, but not everything we do is going to prevent it from wherever we go. But no, I'm not scared at school. I feel pretty secure.

idk? im in a pretty violent school district but i feel completely safe in school.... 95% of the time.. but I think that's mostly because I don't hang around people that would make me feel unsafe.. . . . our school just recently got 2 cops on school grounds too.
