I am in favor for sure. I don't believe that it prevents anything, but I do want to get rid of the people who commit these vile crimes.

Yes. Too many convicted murderers, rapists, child molestors, etc. are relaxing on Death Row, watching movies, listening to music, working out, writing books, etc., while we pay for their housing, as mentioned above. They took away an innocent person's life, and they don't deserve to keep their own. I say fry 'em.

"Critics of the death penalty say that when we execute a murderer then we as a society are no better than he is. Hey, I'm not an elitist snob, I don't think I'm better than anyone. So fry the mother." - Dennis Miller (amen (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) )

Yes I'm for it too and I agree with everything you said.

Overall, I do not believe in it. I did a paper on it in 9th grade, and both sides had good arguments, but I'll have to go with no.

I voted 'yes and no'. I agree with Tom's statement 100%, but I'm pulled the other way when thinking only God has the authority to choose life and death. Make sense? Believe me, I get very frustrated knowing society's scum is running loose.

I picked no, and for the same reason Jeff said, I just feel like the death penalty is a way of trying to play God.

I also believe that you don't have to be convicted of murder to get the death penalty. Many crimes are worthy of being sentenced to death. Murder is just the worst kind of crime.

I say yes and no. Since we as society quote and feel EVERY ONE should follow the bible. I have to say no. It is up the god as to what happens to the person we do not have the right to kill some one. Now as a person for some crimes I feel we need to do something to these people.

This is a tough one for me and I think about my feelings on it a lot.

Part of me thinks that yes, if you murder someone you should pay the ultimate consequence for it and that it's only fair for you to lose your life as well. However, the other part of me thinks it's almost better to let the person live with their action and their consquences for those actions so they have a chance to truly realize what they have done and have a chance to repent.

100% yes, as long as the evidence is for sure. If it is known that that person is a murderer, then I think they should be put to death whatever way they killed the person they killed. Lethal injection, big deal. They aren't going through the torture the person they killed went through. And MM is Hot, I agree with you about not just murder. I have no tolerance for peolpe who abuse animals and the elderly.

I'm not suggesting torture, but a little less comfort couldn't hurt.

It really frustrates me when people think that prisons are just "the life" these days. They're not comfortable! My dad has worked for the Federal Bureau of Justice in federal prisons and correctional institutions for 25 years. I have been inside them and they are nothing like what a lot of people think they are. For some people, all that they have is a 10' by 10' cell and they can only come out for 1 hour a day. Their hour is chosen for them and if it's at 6am and they don't want to come out at that time, they're in their cell for 24 hours straight.

Really, jail and prison is not by any means "comfortable."

It depends on the state, but other felonies that are punishable by death penalty include hijacking an airplane, treason, and aggravated kidnapping.

Since 1973, at least 121 people have been released from death row after evidence of their innocence emerged. During the same period of time, over 982 people have been executed. Thus, for every eight people executed, there is found one person on death row who never should have been convicted.
