When Jordin Sparks sang 'A Broken Wing' this last season Paula said that she thought Jordin sang it better than the original by Martina.

What do you think? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/huh.gif)

James Brown's Annual Turkey Giveaway Continues

AUGUSTA, Ga. (AP) — A Thanksgiving tradition sponsored by James Brown is being continued in this first year after the soul pioneer's death with the annual turkey giveaway in his hometown.
In his place, longtime confidant and civil rights activist Al Sharpton will hand out the first turkey Monday.

Brown started the turkey tradition in 1991. He died of heart failure last Christmas at age 73.

More than 1,000 turkeys are usually distributed at the pre-Thanksgiving event, said the Rev. Larry Fryer, who assisted Brown with previous giveaways. The Brown family also will continue Brown's annual Christmas toy giveaway on Dec. 20.

"We're the ones who decided to do what we know dad would have wanted us to do," his daughter, Deanna Brown Thomas, said Friday. "These are two events that held dearest to dad's heart."

Thomas said her father left no doubt that he wanted his children to carry on this tradition.

"Daddy told me one time 'I expect for y'all to continue this,'" she said. "And he ain't just any daddy. He's James Brown."

The family asked for donations to keep the events alive. As of Friday, an account set up at First Bank of Georgia had received $4,500, a bank representative said.

.....Anyway & Where Would You Be. Great power ballads!

Both give me goosebumps and shivers.

Are these anyone else's favorites?

What are some more power songs that you recommend from Martina?

What are some 'mild' songs you recommend?

The James Brown

MOUNT PLEASANT, Iowa—There's a classic stunt James Brown used to pull at the end of his shows. After playing his last song, handlers would come out, throw a cape over his shoulders, and hustle him off stage, as if to say, Come on James, the show's over. But just as he reached the edge of the stage, he would toss off the cape, run back out and start dancing again. The crowd devoured it.

John Edwards has perfected a political version of the James Brown. At the end of an event in Fairfield, Iowa, Edwards told the audience, "They told me not to take questions"—"they" apparently being his killjoy campaign staff—"but I'm gonna do it anyway." Grateful applause ensues. Same thing at the end of a Q&A session here in Mount Pleasant. An aide cut in, "Senator—" "We have time for one more," Edwards cheerfully interrupted. He even tried it during impromptu availability aboard the press bus, while delivering coffee to baggy-eyed reporters. "It's time to go," said an aide, to which Edwards responded, "No, let's do this now."

It's one of the oldest tricks around, but somehow it never fails to delight. And with zero hour approaching, it never hurts to throw off the cape and dance for one more minute.

Who started this version of 'Santa Claus is Coming to Town' where they sing:
"SAAAAAAnta Claus is coming to town?"

I normally like when people change songs but in this case it annoys me. First of all, many are jumping on the bandwagon and copying the one who changed it first.

The Springsteen version is OK, but the beginning is the best where he is talking to his band.

The Jackson Five and other versions like this completely aggravate me.
I heard a country version in December on a Christmas radio station and they sang it the same way!

Who started this change from the original way of singing it, which was:
"Santa Claus is coming to town", and not "SAAAAAnta Claus is co ming to town"?????
