Britney Spears has been carried out of her home on a stretcher and taken into custody after police were called in a dispute involving her children.

"While officers were at Britney's home they found that Britney appeared under the influence of an unknown substance," officer Jason Lee told the BBC.

"She is being taken into custody for evaluation," he added.

The 26-year-old singer and ex-husband Kevin Federline are wrangling over custody of their two young sons.

'Breakdown'

Police were called to Spears' home at 2000 local time (0400 GMT) over a family custodial dispute that they tried to resolve "peacefully by court order", Mr Lee said.

After nearly three hours, Spears reportedly handed over her children, two-year-old Sean Preston and one-year-old Jayden James, to Federline.

Federline has temporary custody of their children because Spears, who has limited visitation rights, failed to comply with court orders.

The pop star's lawyers filed a court motion earlier in the week asking to be relieved due to a "breakdown" in communication with their client.

Spears and Federline were married in October 2004 and divorced in July 2007.

I find this so so sad.
Anyone who has had a member of their family who has suffered a mental breakdown, mixed with drugs will know how it feels.
We are seeing someone who has suffered with the fame and had a breakdown and mixed with drugs(dont know if she took them before the breakdown,or took them to help her get through this) going downhill.
Iv seen this sort of thing(not with the fame of course) in my own family.

Hilton fortune to go to charity
Paris Hilton
Paris Hilton spent three weeks in jail earlier this year
The inheritance of US heiress Paris Hilton looks set to shrink dramatically after her grandfather announced plans to give most of his fortune to charity.

Hotel magnate Barron Hilton, 80, will donate 97% of his $2.3bn (£1.2bn; 1.6bn euros) fortune to the Conrad N Hilton Foundation, set up by his father.

The funds come from the $20bn sale of Hilton Hotels to The Blackstone Group.

Reports have said that Mr Hilton is embarrassed by the behaviour of his granddaughter.

Ms Hilton, known for her party lifestyle, spent three weeks in jail earlier this year for violating probation in a drink driving case.

Mr Hilton will give $1.2bn immediately to a charitable trust that will eventually benefit the foundation.

The rest of the money will follow after his death.

The foundation supports projects that provide clean water in Africa, education for blind children and housing for the mentally ill.

I find this an absolute disgrace that poor Paris might only have a few million to spend.
I feel we owe to this world icon to make sure she isnt skint,if we all give up a few months wages to help Paris along.
We could sell a kidney, our house or our kids to help her.
If we can get her at least 1 million dollars a month, that would go towards helping her, make ends meat, she needs more of course, but its a start.

News,just in.
Bush has asked the senate to divert some of the war funds to help Paris and a petition from the troops in Iraq, has called for the goverment to help her.
If Paris cant afford to party in the top clubs and afford the top fashion, then, the troops will feel vunerable and downhearted.
By partying,Paris is helping the moral of the troops.

I did a banner in 2006 for a Dixie Chicks show in London, since then its been passed around to lots of shows in North America.
It said DIXIE CHICKS FANS TAKING THE LONG WAY.

I think something for the fans to pass around and let Martina see at everyshow would be great too.
What do people think,as yous are the ones who attend the shows.
