Honestly, I would LOVE Martina to win, and I think she SHOULD win this award every year until she retires...but unfortuantely, I think it'll be Carrie Underwood.

I really think Martina has a chance this year! I really hope so.

I'll really be happy as long as it's not Carrie again! But, we'll see very soon!!! I can't wait..

Carrie didn't win this "award" from ACM last year. Sara Evans did. Gretchen in 2005 and Martina from 2002-2004.

I just hope Carrie DOESN'T win. I'm sorry, but I'm tired of Carrie Underwood. Not to mention a close friend of mine saw her in concert last year and he commented that she doesn't sound as good 'live' as she does on the CD. Now how does that make someone Vocalist of the Year? I don't want Carrie to win either, but she will. As much as I want to see Martina win it, Carrie probably does deserve it due to all of the radio success she's had over the past year. I only saw Carrie live once, but I have to disagree about her not singing as well as she does on the CD. I thought she was great, even though she did not even come close to Martina that night (and never will). So basically I'm prepared to see Carrie win it tonight, but I definitely will NOT be ok with her winning the CMA again later this year.

I know. But, she's been winning all the other awards since then. That's what I meant by that! Thanks though.

I'd love for Martina or Miranda to take it. Carrie will probably get it, but I'm praying for her to walk away empty handed. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif)

I REALLY hope Martina gets it! However, I also think Carrie will get it. If she doesnt though, then Martina will for sure! And trust me Carrie sounds just as good live as she does on her CD. I've seen her 4 times.

No one had a better year in 2006 than Carrie. As Daniel pointed out, she didn't win this award last year. The awards are for the calendar year 2006...I would be shocked if anyone else but Carrie won it. This one is probably the biggest no-brainer of the night, IMO. But come CMA time...look out for Martina!! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)

I think you really have to be a vocalist to win the award, and in my opinion, Carrie can't sing.

It would be wonderful to see Martina win it (and I would be SO excited), but I think that we all have an inkling who's going to walk away with the prize...hm. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/ph34r.gif) That's alright though; I agree that she had a fabulous year!

I don't see what all the fuss is about.
Is there another artist on the scene who can claim to have been as prominent and as successful as Carrie lin 2006? Even remotely?
I don't see anyone even close, and that's what the award is for. When you think back to 2006, what songs, what artists come to mind first. THAT is what the ACM is rewarding.

If Martina had such a year and Carrie fans were hoping and praying for her to be snubbed, we would all scream bloody murder. We would at least shout "WHAT?!?! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)

I happen to like Carrie. I like her as a person, from what I can see, and I think her voice is as pretty as she. I have heard her live and she sings well. It isn't right to compare her with Martina, just as it isn't right to compare her with Faith, or Trisha, or Miranda, or Gretchen, or Taylor. They are all different, yet each has something unique to offer that the other's can't touch. Really.

Besides, Carrie is only 23. So if we want to compare, let's compare her to Martina at 23, or Trisha at 23 , or Reba at 23 (OK, OK, so sometimes I shoot myself in the foot! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif) ). Carrie just seems to have more of what the record-buying, radio-listening public wants at this juncture in the 21st century. Good for her. I can't wait to hear what she becomes by the time she is Martina's age.

Go Carrie. I'm willing to bet that Martina herself will share in your joy no trace of envy or resentment.

Cordially,

Tom

Whether you like her or not Carrie should be an absolute slam dunk for this award. Outside of headlining a tour she has been the main story in Country music in 2006 and early 2007. I don't happen to be a fan or a member of "Hater Nation" but I can't argue with her numbers.

I am thrilled to see Miranda get a nomination for this award even though she has no chance of winning (even by her own admission). The ACMs are thankfully acknowledging her overall talent as a singer. songwriter, live performer etc. She may not win awards (which means JACK to me anyways) but she is a true and unique talent and a breath of fresh air into the stale genre known as Country Music.

Hopefully Miranda will take the Top New Female Vocalist even though her "break-out" success was really the prior year. She just didn't have a chance to win last year with Carrie bursting on the scene. Although Taylor has had tremendous success this year, Miranda should get rewarded. I think that getting a nod for Female Vocalist is a sign that she'll at least get Top New Female. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

I did not know she was up for top new FV! I don't pay much attention to award shows but I'd have thought last year would have been the only year she would have been eligibale for that.

Do you happen to know if Miranda is performing tonight? Thanks for the info in advance as I am leaving the board in a minute or two.
