I've had several PM's from good people on the board lately inquiring as to whether or not I ended up getting into UGA or not so I figured I might as well make a post about it to tell all of you that the answer is YES, I did get in.
I had kept making it through all of the different cuts they had and finally made it onto a wait list and then on May 1st they called me to let me know I had been accepted. Since May 1st was committment day, we had sent in a deposit to another school that morning before I heard from UGA. But I did get in so that is where I'm going to be in the fall as a Journalism and Mass Communications major. My parents are absolutely beside themselves with excitement - in fact - for mother's day we got my mom a "Georgia Mom" sticker to put on her car. I am excited to finally know where I am going...because I got wait listed I had to obviously wait to find out if I was accepted and by this point most of my friends knew where they were going so it was a frustrating thing for me to still be very unsure of what I was going to be doing. But I've found a roommate and am going through all of the stuff they give you to do such as sign up for orientation, parking, meal plans, etc. so it's a lot of stuff to do but I'm excited about the new experience!! |

Congratulations! I remember those of anticipating the experience going off to college & everything you have to do to get ready! I kinda miss it, actually! Enjoy the process & remember how fast high school went b/c college seems to fly by even faster!! My university actually has a high acceptance rate, which I was kind of apprehensive about. But it was private school & they wanted everyone to be able to experience what they had to offer (which was awesome, btw!). (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) Is UGA hard to get into? It sounds like it was quite a process, so congrats. once again! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

Yes, especially for in-state students. I think this year they had around 16,000-17,000 applications and only accepted around 5,000 students for the freshman class. I have friends that have over a 4.0 with honors and AP classes and lots of extra curriculars that did not get accepted. |

Congratulations Meredith! You were a lock, like a Dominique Wilkins slam dunk, to get in to UGA all along despite all this wait list nonsense. Having gone to a huge university myself, I am 110% certain you are going to have no problems whatsoever in adjusting to college life. You have all the traits to make a very smooth transition into college life, which will be the greatest time of your life. And I know you are smart enough and saavy enough to avoid the pitfalls that some kids succumb to in college. Dang! I'm jealous! I'd love to be back in college! That was just the ultimate "Big and Rich time". I even loved the dorm food! Yep, I was (and still am) a hick! And I think with the aquistion of the "Georgia Mom" sticker, your family now officially owns ever piece of UGA gear and memorabilia available. |

Thanks everyone! I've gotten all signed up for orientation and am getting more and more excited. This is my last week of highschool so it's all a little bittersweet at the same time.
