QUOTE (georgiagirl517 @ Jan 4 2008, 11:55 AM) *
Yea, leave it to Florida. The one time I actually try and count on them to win they let me down. It was a heck of a game though. Michigan had a lot of emotional edge coming into the game as it was Lloyd Carr's last and they had a few bumps in the road this season so I figured they might end up winning - although I picked Florida on my sheet.

And I know they say there is like a "Heisman Curse" which I find ironic that I know at least 3 of the Heisman trophy candidates, including winner Tim Tebow, lost in their bowl games.

The main thing I was so proud of was my Bulldogs rout of the incredibly highly touted Hawaii team. I was so, so sick of hearing about Hawaii and Colt Brennan by kickoff Tuesday night I could have hit something - thankfully Marcus Howard and the rest of the Georgia defense did it for me. It still stuns me Colt Brennan was even a Hesiman candidate. I feel the reason he had such great numbers was he hardly had any pressure from anybody's defense all season until us. He looked visibily nervous and unprepared from the moment he stepped on the field Tuesday night.

I'm still upset that the BCS, with its incredibly flawed system, still went with tradition by putting USC/Illinois in the Rose Bowl instead of creating an epic matchup that would have been if they had put USC and UGA in that game and let Illinois and Hawaii play. I can almost guarantee those would have been 2 good games rather than what we ended up with.

But so far...I've done very well in my bowl predictions. Florida and Georgia Tech both let me down - funny how that works out - my two most hated teams but other than that I've done pretty well. I had Kansas beating VT and WVU beating OU so these past 2 days have been good for my bowl sheet!! The SEC has done very well which I am quite proud of. I figured Arkansas would lose because well Missouri just wasn't gonna walk away without a win. They deserved to go to a BCS bowl and Arkansas has a lot going on right now they were never focused on the game to begin with. Florida, however, shocked me.

I'm still a big proponent of a college playoff type system.

Yeah.. Plus the game meant the world to Michigan to break their "0-fer" streak [that expression is thanks to TEEEEEE!] for the seniors and to end Lloyd Carr's career with a bang. The game meant nothing to Florida, even though it'd be nice to win. Ending the year with 3 losses or 4 losses wouldn't make a difference. We just couldn't match their emotion. But, I've come to terms with the loss. I actually had a bad feeling about the game before it started - I was worried about the emotion. Oh well.

I'm looking forward to next year. If our defense can grow up and be BIG, look for UGA and UF to be two of the best teams in the country!

And it's totally not fair y'all played Hawaii! Haha. I'd take them over a riled up Michigan any day! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif) And yep, the SEC is doing VERY well, I'm definitely proud of that.

Yep, your right. October 1, 2005. Tyrone Prothro is the guy for Alabama.

And whether it's fair or not Georgia got to play Hawaii...last I recall before our pounding on them Tuesday night...half this country was pulling and favored Hawaii to win. All I kept hearing about was how Hawaii was gonna light Georgia up and Colt Brennan this and Colt Brennan that. I think Georgia would have much preferred to play any other team. How Hawaii got in a BCS bowl in the first place I don't know.

Glad you took care of them. Hawaii should have NEVER been in a BCS bowl to begin with. Put another Big East or ACC team there or something...or even UCF [haha]. Glad y'all shut people up about Colt Brennan, I was tired of hearing how he was better than Tebow. Shoot, if Kyle Israel was QB for 'em he could have near those numbers. After they get beat by UGA, they're coming to THE SWAMP for the first or second game next year. Aloha, y'all.

Florida should have no problem with Hawaii. I still cannot believe Colt Brennan was a Heisman candidate because Tebow could run circles around Brennan.

What I find funny is Mark May on ESPN just kept glorifying Hawaii and praising them and picking them to win, then after they lose he says they didn't belong in a BCS bowl in the first place and starts praising Georgia. He's never quick to give Georgia any respect.

One thing I do respect about the WAC is that they seem to be starting to try to schedule tougher opponents to sort of beef up their conference. Fresno State is a a great example as with Boise State going in last year and beating Oklahoma it what has to be the greatest football game I've ever seen. It was because of that game last year that Hawaii got lofted so highly this year. However, they weren't quite prepared to play in a BCS game in my opinion. I think personally that the Bulldogs were also sick and tired of hearing about Hawaii and wanted to shut everyone up. Job well done. I can only hope LSU does the same thing to Ohio State.

Heck I was pulling for Hawaii to win just because of the caliber of team they were playing. I was pretty sure they wouldn't win, but I was hoping just to say they did it.

Of course we Clemson fans have a pure hatred for the Dawgs so surely you can understand. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)

Yep. I can't stand any ESPN announcer. It was bad last year too, when we "didn't belong" in the NC game and then all of a sudden they say Florida was an outstanding team and deserved it. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif) UGA and Auburn get little to no respect from the media. It's ridiculous. I bet y'all could go 13-0 and end up in the Sugar. Don't know if it would happen to Auburn again, but I wouldn't totally be surprised if it did.

ATLANTA (AP) - The Atlanta committee which organized the Chick-fil-A Bowl is expected to announce final plans tomorrow for Clemson and Alabama to open the 2008 season in the Georgia Dome. Atlanta Sports Council officials have been in negotiations with the schools for months to play the neutral-site game in Atlanta on August 30th, with tickets distributed evenly between the schools.

The council has scheduled a news conference for tomorrow afternoon. Chick-fil-A Bowl president Gary Stokan said last week plans for the game were put on hold while the committee focused on the bowl game.

Laura, I thought that the Clemson/Auburn game was one of the best match-ups in all of the bowl season. Neutral site games are also really fun because it is a lot like a bowl game. Georgia/Florida has their game in a neutral site and it's a blast. That would be a good matchup to see again...it would be interesting to see if Auburn could do it twice.

I agree. I thought it was def. the best matchup so far - with VT and Kansas also being a good pair. Unfortunately our QB was still feeling the pain from a shoulder injury earlier in the season - he really shouldn't have been playing at all. What did we have to lose? Nothing. They should've put Korn or Reese in instead of Harper but whatever.

Despite the result of the Sugar Bowl it would have been a grave injustice to leave Hawaii out of the BCS for several reasons. First, who else could realisitically make a claim for that spot? Arizona State could have for sure going in to the bowl season but they got hammered in a lesser bowl it turns out. Missouri could not have gone as the Big 12 had already secured their bids with OU and KU. I can't think of another team that should have gone ahead of either Hawaii or even Illinois. And when you look at how smaller conference teams have fared the past few years in BCS bowls there was no way to keep the Rainbows out. Utah hammered Pittsburgh 35-7 in the 2005 Fiesta Bowl and we all know what Boise did to HTU last year. So unless I am overlooking someone, mid majors have won 2 of their last 3 BCS bowl games.

An early indication of an Ohio State loss coming up. I missed EVERY BCS bowl game picking against the point spread thus far. Every single one. And I took the 5 pts and Ohio State in the Championship Game so things are looking bleak for the Buckeyes. I have questions about both teams so I made a safeplay and took the points. Not that that particular philosophy has worked out too well thus far. So if form holds LSU will win by at least a TD the way my picks have been going.
