Britney Spears has been carried out of her home on a stretcher and taken into custody after police were called in a dispute involving her children.

"While officers were at Britney's home they found that Britney appeared under the influence of an unknown substance," officer Jason Lee told the BBC.

"She is being taken into custody for evaluation," he added.

The 26-year-old singer and ex-husband Kevin Federline are wrangling over custody of their two young sons.

'Breakdown'

Police were called to Spears' home at 2000 local time (0400 GMT) over a family custodial dispute that they tried to resolve "peacefully by court order", Mr Lee said.

After nearly three hours, Spears reportedly handed over her children, two-year-old Sean Preston and one-year-old Jayden James, to Federline.

Federline has temporary custody of their children because Spears, who has limited visitation rights, failed to comply with court orders.

The pop star's lawyers filed a court motion earlier in the week asking to be relieved due to a "breakdown" in communication with their client.

Spears and Federline were married in October 2004 and divorced in July 2007.

I find this so so sad.
Anyone who has had a member of their family who has suffered a mental breakdown, mixed with drugs will know how it feels.
We are seeing someone who has suffered with the fame and had a breakdown and mixed with drugs(dont know if she took them before the breakdown,or took them to help her get through this) going downhill.
Iv seen this sort of thing(not with the fame of course) in my own family.

I feel really bad for her but I also feel she brought this upon her self. She is having a "breakdown" because she started on a road of self destruction brought on by selfishness. I also blame her parents. I truely hope she gets her life back in order soon before something happens to her or the children.

I find this very sad.

I know a lot of people do not like Britney Spears, they don’t care for her actions – and yes, her behaviour leaves a lot to be desired. But deep down there is a very troubled young lady – a victim of too much, too young – who needs help. And needs it fast.

She obviously doesn’t have a very stable home-life and that’s sad. She needs a family – a father and mother - a proper, loving mother there to guide her instead of going off writing books about her. I imagine she has a lot of people around her who are simply there for the attention, the association.

The press need to leave the poor girl alone and let her get on with things. I mean, did they really need a helicopter circling her house when these latest events were going on? 1998 she was young, sweet as pie, the bees-knees, could no wrong. Then for whatever reason they turned on her and she’s living proof – the press can tear you down just as quick as they can build you up.

I do like Britney and I feel very sorry for her. I hope she gets the help she so desperately needs before it’s too late.

Britney is still one of th 10 best selling SOLO artists in the US and she isn't even out of her 20s yet.
This story is just sad. Hopefully Kevin will do right by the children and Britney will finally be able to get the help she needs. Britney started out in the Mickey Mouse Club and she was not like this when she started. She is one of many examples why I think the kids (and yes they are still kids, their minds are still developing) under the age of 18 - should not be going into this business...

I used to feel sorry for Britney... but now I don't. She could have gotten help by now but she continues to do stupid things putting herself and her kids in danger. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif) Federline needs to get sole custody of the two boys and Britney needs to either go to rehab - and STAY - or be admitted to a mental hospital for a full evaluation.

That is also sad. The woman can't sing, it just goes to show you that people will buy any crap that is thrown at them.

She brought this on herself, there are poor people all over the world who can't even find food to eat or shelter to live in, so it is hard for me to feel for rich people who can't handle having everything they could ever want, but I do feel bad for her, because she is a human being and I hope she gets the help she needs.

However, the most important thing is her two children's welfare.
They come first. She is a danger to them and she should not be allowed to see them until she straightens out.

Her last album "Blackout" was crap and didn't even sell enough to reach Gold so to say she is still one of the top 10 is crazy loco.

^Should have been called Meltdown or Self Destruction. LoL!

I've never cared for Britney, even less so nowadays. All of these things she's brought on herself and she's clearly made no efforts to change things. I mean, she may wish things were different, but you have to work at making those changes and she just seems to empty-headed and lazy to make anything resembling a serious attempt. As such as I have no sympathy for her at all. I hope her kids are okay, but I couldn't care less about Britney. I don't see any change in these types of stories about her for a very long time.

It's just sad. But I also think it's sad to see/hear people wishing against her because they don't like her or say she brought it on herself. Sure, she's made a lot of mistakes. A LOT. But who hasn't. And admitting them and asking for help is not easy. I've been there--without the drugs and fame involved of course. And I'm sure having helicopters flying over you watching out for your next mistake doesn't make it any easier to fix your life when you desperately need to. There are so many things wrong with the media in the entertainment business. The mere fact that people view someone's life in shambles as entertainment is a sad truth about our culture.

You are so right! I've been there too. The hardest thing for anyone to do is to admit that they were wrong and to ask for help. Sometimes it takes more for that person to realize not only the destruction to oneself but to others as well. I have compassion for Brittany and I hope she realizes that she needs help before it is too late. I wish her well.

Having money has nothing to do with it. Rich people have problems too. We need to be compassionate. That could be you or anyone else. Believe me no one is above that.

QUOTE
A source reportedly told Us Weekly magazine that Spears was not under the influence Thursday night but suffering from mental problems, and was constantly being watched at Cedars-Sinai to make sure she wouldn't harm herself.

The magazine quotes a source saying Spears went “completely psycho” as she was rushed to the hospital. "They had to strap her down like a mental patient and she was going between laughing and hysterics,” the source adds, calling it “a total psychotic breakdown. She just went crazy."

Not saying Federline is a father-of-the-year candidate but he really needs to gain sole custody of those kids - at least for now. Spears needs some serious mental evaluation - and I think she'll end up getting that at the hospital she's at because she's on a "medical hold" there which usually meands mental evaluation.

I really don't feel sorry for her anymore. She's had enough time to get help but she doesn't want it. I know she wasn't raised with the best parents in the world but neither were a lot of people and they aren't going totally nuts. I feel sorry for those kids though... Spears as a mom and Federline as a dad has to seriously suck. Wait until they're old enough to realize whats going on. Oy. Poor kids.

Gosh, it's nice to see Martina Fans have such compassion for other artists.

If you don't care about her don't reply to a thread with her name.

For her childrens sake I hope she gets the help she needs. They have a mother that according to her label, has shipped out more than 70 million albums worldwide and then had a complete breakdown before she was 30..

I just hope she gets the help she needs

You know what is sad? I was watching 3 different news shows yesterday to hear about the upcoming NH primary, and half of the time they were talking about Britney Spears. I. Don't. Care.

A lady (a lawyer, I think?) on Larry King last night said it best: "As a mother, if I faced the threat of losing my kids forever because of something that was wrong with me, I would do absolutely anything I had to do in order to fix the problem and get them back. But Britney seems like she just doesn't care."
